The Idaho Activities Association announced all athletics and activities have been canceled through the remainder of the academic year.

“It is with sadness and regret that the Idaho High School Activities Association Board of Directors announces that all spring sport and activity seasons and all state tournaments are cancelled,” the IHSAA wrote in a press release Friday morning.

According to the release, the Board saw no possible way competition could continue while also aligning with social distancing practices.

The decision came after Gov. Brad Little extended Idaho’s stay-at-home order through April 30, while the Idaho State Board of Education announced all schools would be closed until health officials deemed individual districts safe to reopen.

In terms of practice, the use of school facilities will be banned until May 18. Coaches are prohibited from “organizing or directing team workouts and practices” until that date as well.

Friday morning’s announcement means countless senior athletes across the state had their season cut short before it even began. Just a handful of Idaho teams had begun competition before the initial suspension took effect March 16.

“We look forward to getting together and playing when the time is right and it can be done safely,” the IHSAA wrote.

In light of the cancellation, IdahoSports.com has created an online yearbook to honor not just seniors, but all Idaho athletes. To order your favorite athlete a spot in our yearbook, click here.
