26 schools have posted jobs or hired for head football coaching positions for the 2019 season as of July 5.

We expect a few more changes as the spring goes on and we will continue to update moving forward with any new information.

Below you will see all of the changes that have been announced so far.

Bonners Ferry
Previous Coach: Cory Kramer
New Coach: Travis Hinthorn

Sven’s Notes: The Badgers finished with a 1-8 record in each of the past three seasons after a playoff appearance and a 4-5 record in Kramer’s first year back in 2015. In four seasons, Kramer was 7-29 on the sideline in Bonners Ferry. Hinthorn also serves as the girls basketball coach at Bonners Ferry.

Burley
Previous Coach: Tony Cade
New Coach: Dylan Corless

Sven's Notes: Burley went 5-13 in two seasons under Cade, who was previously the head coach at American Falls. Every school in the Cassia County School District with the exception of Raft River will have a new varsity coach this season, as Declo, Oakley and now Burley have announced openings. Corless served as the defensive coordinator under Cade.

Caldwell
Previous Coach: Zac Farnam
New Coach: Steve Fleshman

Sven's Notes: The Cougars went 1-8 in each of the seasons with Farnam on the sideline. Caldwell gave up 36 or more points in each game last year except the season finale when they knocked off Mountain Home 21-13. The last time the program had a .500 or better record was in 2005 when the team went 5-5. Fleshman has coached at Nampa and Skyview for 12 years. His hire was announced May 23.

Columbia
Previous Coach: Jon Helmandollar
New Coach: Greg Asbury

Sven's Notes: Helmandollar led the Wildcats to a 6-5 record in one season on the sideline. Last season was the first time the Wildcats had made a playoff run in eight years. He resigned on May 22. Asbury previously served as the head coach at Homedale and at Parma, among other stops. He has a record of 105-49 between those two jobs and won back-to-back state titles in 2008 and 2009 at Parma.

Council
Previous Coach: Randy Nichols
New Coach: Cole Cooper

Sven’s Notes: After 18 seasons with Dan Shumway as the head coach, the Lumberjacks will now be moving on to their third coach in as many years. Nichols went 0-9 in one season. Council had zero seniors on the roster in 2018. The last win for the Lumberjacks came on October 28, 2016 against Garden Valley. Cooper previously served as an assistant for Tri-Valley and played collegiately at Utah State.

Deary
Previous Coach: Ryan Kirk
New Coach: Jason Hanson

Sven's Notes: Kirk led the Mustangs to a 6-3 record and a trip to the playoffs in his lone year as the head coach. Hanson steps in as a graduate of the school to take over the head job. He has previously served as an assistant.

Declo
Previous Coach: Kelly Kidd
New Coach: Josh Stewart

Sven's Notes: Kidd retired as the head coach of the Hornets after 201 wins and four state championships in 23 seasons. The new coach will inherit a program that has won back-to-back state titles. Kidd announced the decision in a recent Instagram post.  Stewart was previously the defensive coordinator at Shelley for the past three seasons, helping lead the Russets to the semifinals in 2017 and a state runner-up finish in 2016.

Eagle
Previous Coach: Paul Peterson
New Coach: John Hartz

Sven’s Notes: Peterson established Eagle as one of the 5A powers in the state of Idaho during his 14 seasons, winning a state title in 2009 and leading the program to 12 consecutive playoff appearances. His overall record was 109-40. Hartz coached under Peterson for six seasons and has additional experience as an assistant at Timberlake, American Falls and Mountain Home.

Filer
Previous Coach: Rob Anderson
New Coach: Ty Hess

Sven’s Notes: In three seasons at Filer, Anderson’s Wildcats went 7-19. The last playoff appearance for the program came in 2015. Hess was an assistant for the Filer football program last year and also currently serves as the head baseball coach.

Firth
Previous Coach: Keith Drake
New Coach: Jordan Bartlett

Sven's Notes: Drake steps aside as the head football coach at Firth after recently being named the principal of the high school. In eight seasons under his leadership, the Cougars went 53-29 and made the playoffs each year. Bartlett is a graduate of Firth and served as an assistant on Drake's staff.

Glenns Ferry
Previous Coach: Jake Shrum
New Coach: TBD

Sven’s Notes: After taking over for Laif Morrison in 2017, Shrum was left with major roster turnover after a senior-heavy group led the Pilots to nine wins and a semifinal appearance the year prior. Shrum’s overall record in two seasons was 5-13.

Hagerman
Previous Coach: Joe Keeney
New Coach: Nic Jayo

Sven's Notes: In one season as the head coach, Keeney led the Pirates to a 3-5 record. Jayo takes over as the new guy in charge this year after two years as an assistant at Hagerman.

Idaho Falls
Previous Coach: Pete Molino
New Coach: Marty Duffin

Sven's Notes: Molino coached the Tigers for six seasons and finished with a record of 26-34 on the sideline, including four trips to the state playoffs. The position was posted on the Idaho Falls School District 91 website on April 18.  Duffin is an Idaho Falls graduate who was a member of the 1995 National Champion Montana Grizzlies football team. He served as the defensive line coach last season.

Marsing
Previous Coach: Kurt Carey
New Coach: Dan Charters

Sven's Notes: Marsing has won just two games in the past five seasons. Carey led the program to a victory in his second week on the sideline with an 18-6 defeat of Payette last year. In his only season, Carey's Huskies went 1-7 overall.

Meridian
Previous Coach: Mike Virden
New Coach: John Zamberlin

Sven’s Notes: Virden’s second stint at Meridian lasted only one year, but he leaves former Idaho State University head coach John Zamberlin with a quality roster that appears ready to win immediately. The Warriors went 3-7 last season, but bring back plenty of talent on each side of the ball with double digit starters coming back. Zamberlin played in the NFL for the Chiefs and Patriots and has also coached at Central Washington, Weber State and in the Canadian Football League. Last season he was an assistant at Eagle.

Oakley
Previous Coach: Kade Craner
New Coach: Brennan Jones

Sven’s Notes: Plenty of success came to Oakley in four seasons under Craner, as the exiting head coach led the program to a 32-12 record and four consecutive playoff berths, including two championship appearances and a trip to the semifinals.

Parma
Previous Coach: Jake Walgamott
New Coach: Daniel Jenkins

Sven’s Notes: Walgamott coached the Panthers for five seasons and led the program to a 14-32 record. The highlight of his time on the sideline was a 24-14 first round playoff win in 2015 over Timberlake to put Parma in the quarterfinals. The school also made the playoffs in 2014 in Walgamott’s first year. Jenkins previously served as an assistant at Nampa Christian where he coached running backs and defensive backs.

Priest River
Previous Coach: Justin Torfin
New Coach: Jared Hughes

Sven’s Notes: Torfin, previously the running backs coach at the College of Idaho, led the Spartans to a 3-5 record in one season on the sideline. The new hire will be the fourth head coach in four years for the program.

Salmon
Previous Coach: Jason Linger
New Coach: Tyrell Penner

Sven’s Notes: Salmon has not made a playoff appearance since 2014 and last had a winning record in 2012. Linger went 2-13 in two seasons as the head coach. Penner is a Salmon graduate who played for Montana Western at the college level as a defensive lineman.

Salmon River
Previous Coach: Charlie Shepherd
New Coach: Ty Medley

Sven’s Notes: Legendary head coach Charlie Shepherd steps aside in Riggins after 11 seasons and five football state titles. Medley steps in to fill his shoes after serving as an assistant for the past few years.

Shelley
Previous Coach: Jake Monahan
New Coach: Josh Wells

Sven’s Notes: Monahan resigned as the head coach of the Russets after leading the program to a 26-15 record in four seasons, highlighted by a state championship appearance in 2016 and a trip to the semifinals in 2017. Shelley has the smallest enrollment count in the entire 4A classification according to the enrollment figures released by the Idaho High School Activities Association. Wells was most recently an assistant at West Jefferson and also the strength and conditioning coach there. He is a 2007 graduate of Shelley High School.

Tri-Valley
Previous Coach: Bob Johnson
New Coach: Dan Miller

Sven’s Notes: After leading the Titans to a state championship appearance in 2017, Johnson led the co-op to a 4-4 record last season. The legendary coach also helped Cambridge to a state championship in 1975, prior to the forming of the co-op with Midvale. Johnson coached at Weiser for 24 years, Cambridge for seven seasons and at Melba for three years. Miller served as the head strength and conditioning coach at Rocky Mountain High School from 2013-2018.

Troy
Previous Coach: Toby Foster
New Coach: Bob Wilson

Sven’s Notes: Foster went 3-15 in two years as the head coach of the Trojans. Last year Troy had zero seniors on the roster.

Wendell
Previous Coach: Cody Howerton
New Coach: Michael Konrad

Sven's Notes: In two seasons as the head coach at Wendell, Howerton led the Trojans to a 3-13 record, including improving the win total from zero in his first season in 2017 to three last year. Konrad served as an assistant under Howerton.

West Jefferson
Previous Coach: Jason Taylor
New Coach: Ty Minto

Sven’s Notes: Taylor experienced plenty of success in Terreton, finishing with a record of 30-19 in five seasons and leading the Panthers to playoff appearances in each of those years. When Taylor took over, West Jefferson was on a 17-game losing streak and had not won a game in over two years. Minto was approved by the school board as the new head coach on April 25. He served as the head coach of the freshmen team at Red Bluff High School in California last season.

Wood River
Previous Coach: Kevin Stilling
New Coach: Shane Carden

Sven’s Notes: Stilling (38-52) set the mark for most wins by a coach in program history over ten years at Wood River. He gives way to former East Carolina University quarterback Shane Carden, who served as the offensive coordinator in Hailey last season. Carden was the Conference USA MVP in 2013, American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2014 and spent time with the Chicago Bears. He also played in the German Football League, Canadian Football League and Arena Football League.
