Welcome to "Heavy Hitters", where each week, we'll highlight the top hitting performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.

We will select one single-game hitting performance for each day of the week.  Think of it as the best hitting line for that particular day.

If you'd like to nominate a Heavy Hitter, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.

Without further ado, let's get to it!

BASEBALL

Easton Green, 11, Malad (Thursday, May 14)

Green went 2-for-2 as the Dragons held off Salmon, 7-4, in their opening round game at the 3A State Tournaments.  But that 2-for-2 line doesn't tell the whole story: the speedy junior singled and doubled, but also drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, laid down a sacrifice bunt, and reached base on an error.  Green tallied three RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base.  And, to top it all off, Green came on to pitch the 7th inning and earned the save.

Mason Little, 12, Sandpoint (Friday, May 15)

Sandpoint survived a slugfest with Skyview to advance to the 5A championship game, earning a 16-14 win in the 5A State Tournament semifinals.  Little did significant damage, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, seven RBIs, four runs scored, one walk, and one sacrifice fly.

Sage Medeiros, 12, Sandpoint (Saturday, May 16)

Another day, another offensive shootout for Sandpoint, this time in the 5A state championship game.  Once again, the Bulldogs' bats powered Sandpoint to the win, an 18-13 triumph over Skyview.  Medeiros homered twice as part of a 3-for-4 day overall, adding a double, a walk, five RBIs, and three runs scored.

SOFTBALL

Reece Bybee, 12, Highland (Thursday, May 14)

In the Rams' 13-3 win over Mountain View in the opening round of the 6A State Tournament, Bybee went 3-for-3 with two home runs and a single.  She added four RBIs, four runs scored, and a walk to her total line.

Lauren Colson, 11, Cole Valley Christian (Friday, May 15)

Colson has been one of Idaho's best power hitters this season, setting a new school record at Cole Valley Christian for most homers in a single season, but it was her legs that did the talking in the Chargers' 13-2 win over Gooding in the semifinals of the 4A State Tournament.  Colson stole four bases, and went 3-for-3 with a double, two singles, two RBIs, and three runs scored.

Kinlea Cole, 10, Parma and Nalani Van Tuyl, 9, Parma (Saturday, May 16)

On the final day of the softball season, you get a bonus here: two heavy hitters for the price of one.  Both Cole and Van Tuyl played a major role in Parma's 7-6 win over North Fremont in the 3A State Tournament third place game.  The duo went a combined 8-for-8 with 15 total bases, six RBIs, and six runs scored.  The Panthers trailed North Fremont, 6-4, heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, and both Cole and Van Tuyl helped extend the game with timely base hits in that inning, as Parma rallied to tie the game at 6-6 and send the game to extra innings.  Then, in the bottom of the 8th inning, Van Tuyl started at second base as the ghost runner and scored the winning run to send Parma to the state championship game, 7-6.
