Welcome to "Heavy Hitters", where each week, we'll highlight the top hitting performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.
We will select one single-game hitting performance for each day of the week. Think of it as the best hitting line for that particular day.
If you'd like to nominate a Heavy Hitter, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
Without further ado, let's get to it!
BASEBALL
Cannon Eddie, 12, Highland (Wednesday, March 11)
Highland opened its season with an 18-2 win over crosstown rival Century, and Eddie's senior season started in fine form. Eddie finished 3-for-4 with three doubles, seven RBIs, two walks, one run scored and one stolen base, for good measure.
Chirs Maiocca, 12, Mountain View (Thursday, March 12)
In a tight affair with Owyhee, the Mavericks survived and won, 6-5. If Maiocca wasn't available, it's safe to say that the outcome would have been different. The senior went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. He drove in four runs, and scored a run as well, which means that Maiocca had a hand in five of the Mavs' six runs.
Carson Fine, 12, Homedale (Friday, March 13)
Homedale enjoyed a 12-4 win over Emmett, and Fine showcased his power and speed. Fine finished 3-for-5, with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored, while also swiping three bags on the basepaths.
Latrell Markle, 11, Sugar-Salem (Saturday, March 14)
Markle only came to the plate four times in the Diggers' 21-2 win over American Falls, but boy, did he make them count. The junior went 2-for-2 with a home run and a triple, and walked in his other two plate appearances. All told, Markle finished with six RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base.
SOFTBALL
Analyse Durham, 12, Melba (Wednesday, March 11)
Durham cranked two home runs as part of a 3-for-4 day overall in Melba's 21-9 win over McCall-Donnelly on opening day. Durham finished with five RBIs and three runs scored, as well.
McKenna Chavez, 12, Capital (Thursday, March 12)
Chavez was shot out of a cannon to begin the season. In Capital's 13-9 win over rival Boise, the senior finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs, three runs scored, two walks and a stolen base.
Adriana Hartzell, 11, New Plymouth (Friday, March 13)
The Pilgrims sprinted past Payette 10-3, and Hartzell drove in exactly half of New Plymouth's runs. Hartzell went 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs and two runs scored.
McKenna Chavez, 12, Capital (Saturday, March 14)
Chavez already made our list once this week, and it's pretty hard to top a two-homer game. So how about...four home runs in a single contest??? Chavez left the yard four times in the Eagles' 24-4 win over Minico, and finished a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate. For those doing the math at home, that means that four of Chavez' five at-bats ended with her trotting home. Chavez knocked in eight runs and scored five times herself.
