Heading into the new season, the 1AD2 Sawtooth West Conference will have some level of unpredictably to it, with outstanding talents having graduated from both Carey and Dietrich at the top.

Entering his fourth season, Head Coach Cory Holloway has an interesting new group of talent that at the very least provides a whole new look for the Lions.

Gone are standouts Eric Silva and Connor Bosma to graduation, meaning Lighthouse Christian needs to find a way to replace a quarterback/wide receiver duo that accounted for a large majority of its offense throughout their respective careers.

Three players stand out with the potential to provide some firepower on the offensive end.

Connor Holloway, Jordan Bradshaw and Brandon Butler will each have the football in their hands a good amount. Holloway is a quarterback option who also plays linebacker on the other side of the ball.

"Our team speed should be able to stretch the field," said Coach Holloway. "[We need] better efficiency and less turnovers."

Lighthouse Christian is one of the top 1A programs in Idaho, so after a little bit of a down year by its own standards last season, the Lions could rebound this time around.

The defensive intensity could be one of the big factors in doing just that.

For Holloway, there's nothing he likes to see more than everyone crashing towards the ball at the same time.

"Getting eight white hats to the ball. Team pursuit till the whistle on every play."

He wants to see more of a warrior mentality on the defensive side of the ball.

That leads to three big keys for that unit.

"Being more physical on the line of scrimmage, getting more takeaways and not giving up big plays," said Holloway.

The opening to the season should give the Lions a good opportunity to get their feet under them, with the opener at home against Watersprings on August 25, then matchups with Hansen and Richfield to follow.

Lighthouse Christian should be a contender in conference play this season, with the Lions challenging Dietrich and Carey for the top spot in the Sawtooth.
