For 13 years, Logos boys basketball have been successful because of solid leadership, playing together, and defense. This season won’t be any different. Coach Matt Whittling will have a few struggles as he graduated three solid seniors last year.
The leadership will come in the form of upperclassmen seniors David Ahmann, Miles Whittling, and junior Brennon Costello. With Coach Whittling, their job will be to build up the young players as quick as possible. The potential is there, but just needs to be worked to the surface.
Speaking of quick, this youth movement with be asked to move their feet and protect the weak side as defense is a strong point of emphasis with Coach Whittling. Logos may be younger this season, but if the new faces can develop during the season, this team could have a chance come the District tournament. Defense and defense alone will decide how far Logos goes.
Well, maybe not just defense, but it will be the top of the list. Second on that list will be improving outside shooting. Getting set to face many zone defenses, Ahmann and Costello will be asked to knock down a few to open the inside for Whittling. The veterans with be leading through action and words. They will take on the load easing the pressure from the new faces allowing them to grow.
Logos is ready to do battle and bring this young team up to speed in the Whitepine 1A D2. Fans can always look forward to the Kendrick matchups.
“The Kendrick games are always fun to watch,” says Coach Whittling.
