Usually teams that struggle in close games one year bounce back to turn the tide in that regard the next season. Glenns Ferry will hope that is exactly the case this year after multiple heartbreakers during an 8-16 campaign last time out.

Seventh year Head Coach Nathan Jones has been here before and will rely heavily on the returns of Brady Turner and Shay Grisham, both of which missed last season, to help a good core group.

Leading scorer Carlos Gastrelum and rebounder Alfredo Garcia are both back, along with Kody Arellano and Eric Ballesteros.

Virtually the entire group was instrumental in the Pilots run in the state football playoffs this year, so it will be interesting to see how they make the transition onto the hardwood early in the season.

Multiple strong traits exist on the offensive end.

"Post presence with Garcia, and Gastrelum is one of the better guards in the fourth district. We have four players that have started since their sophomore season," said Jones.

He hopes to see improvement in consistency, rebounding and to become more up-tempo.

With the depth that Glenns Ferry has Jones wants to use a pressure defense for the full 32 minutes, taking advantage of what is a quick roster with more experience than in recent history for the Pilots.

The x-factor to a successful season is simple.

"Breakthrough wins on the road. Peak at districts," said Jones.

Keep in mind this is a proud program in Glenns Ferry, including having won a state championship in the recent past, back in 2012, also under Jones.

It is a pretty daunting early slate to the non-conference schedule, including perennial 1AD1 tournament program Liberty Charter, along with a home and home series with defending 1AD2 state champion Dietrich.
