Team Preview

Under Head Coach Leigh Patterson the Mackay Miners have become a consistent force in the state at the 1AD2 classification, something which the team looks to continue in the new year.
The Miners will have to find a way to replace the productivity of the top two scorers from last season in Cheyan James and Chelbee Rosenkrance.
James, a bruising post player who was a nightly double-double threat, has moved on to play collegiately at Walla Walla Community College.
Rosenkrance on the other hand was a sharpshooter from the outside who could also distribute to her teammates.
A strong junior class will be expected to provide even more for the Miners this season, led by guards Morgan Betzer and Kali Gamett.
Both scored in double digits multiple times last season, along with interior presence Libby Moorman, also a junior. It will be key for the trio to provide consistent scoring for Mackay to be successful this year.
With the new faces, the style might change a little as well.
“I believe we are quicker this year as compared to last and I look forward to what this will bring to our team,” said Patterson.
That speed will allow the Miners to continue their style of pushing the tempo, just catapulting it to a new level as a result of the talent on-hand.
The coach has major focus areas on each side of the ball for the team to work on in the new campaign including consistency and a balanced attack on offense.
“I would like to focus on our defense and keeping teams off of the boards,” added Patterson.
Both Mackay and Rockland again look to be battling for the top spot in the 1AD2 Rocky Mountain Conference, with the teams getting together on Jan. 8 at Rockland and Jan. 22 in Mackay.
