Vallivue is coming off a 9-14 season, it what seemed to be the start of a turnaround for the Falcons. Last season, the Falcons had an abundance of upperclassman but this season looks like it could be a combination of seniors and freshman, with six freshman making Varsity this year. Vallivue will be coached again by 4th year head coach Neil Stutzman, who will have the challenge of putting together a consistent rotation with so many young, new faces.

Returning for the Falcons are sophomore guard, Sarah Reinecker, senior post, Adri Valdez, senior guard, Kayla Glaser, senior forward, Holle Raymond, and senior post, Candida Eldridge. Eldridge was one of the leading scorers last season for Vallivue, and they hope her experience and scoring will help propel them as they head into the 2015-16. The Falcons will be without one key piece from last year, Ashlyn Woodruff, who was a 5A SIC, honorable mention member.

The Falcons will probably be one of the youngest teams (in age and experience) in the 5A SIC conference, but they could also surprise some people as well. Coach Stutzman likes to run a fast-paced offense, but the challenge will come in teaching his young group his offense and playing with confidence. “With our youth we will need to focus on taking care of the basketball and getting some easy baskets. We have a lot to learn as a team this season.”

Defensively, the Falcons want to stop more transition baskets, an area they struggled with last season. They won’t have a lot of experience but if they can bring their focus, their energy, and their will to help each other they very well could be one of the surprises this year.

The Falcon’s might start the year in a developmental mode, but if they are able to develop their younger talent with the help of their seniors, they very well could give teams a run for their money on a nightly basis.

GAMES TO WATCH: Vallivue will be part of the TimberLion tournament this year, so make sure you get out and watch some exciting basketball over Christmas break, December 17-19. Games will be held at Timberline and Borah High Schools.
