It can only go uphill in American Falls after an 0-20 season last year.

The losses weren’t close for the Beavers either, only finishing within five points at the final buzzer one time, a 50-47 loss at Kimberly early in the season.

Defensively the new squad will need to place much emphasis on shutting down easy scoring opportunities which allowed ten teams to put over 60 points on the board against them last year.

If there is anyone who could step in and improve the situation in American Falls it is new Head Coach Aaron Bland. The new leader along the sidelines has experience working on the staffs at Middle Tennessee State and Idaho State, as well as holding an assistant coach position at Pocatello High School during the 2008-2009 season.

Staying in games and building confidence will be priority number one in the first season with the new coaching staff.

A good offseason was a step in the right direction according to Bland.

“Our players had a great summer and improved,” he stated. “Players are learning a new system and we are trying to change our culture here at American Falls. The team is starting to understand what they need to do to compete and have opportunities to win.”

The new attitude is a welcome sign for a program which has just five wins over the course of the past three seasons to its name.

Bland mentioned Bill Rowe, Harrison Funk, Coulton Trumbull and Garrett Wagoner as some of the key returners for the Beavers this year, adding a level of experience not seen in previous seasons.

Finding smart shots and avoiding turnovers will be critical in continuing the development of the team.

Some of the key newcomers joining the first year head coach include Joey Morris, Jose Carillo and Coleton Adamson, all of which will look to bring a breath of fresh air into the program.

Part of the new-look in American Falls will be an offense that looks to run and open up the floor.

“We are going to be an exciting team to watch. We are going to play really hard defense and up-tempo offense,” said Bland.

While Snake River is solidified currently atop the 3A Southeast Idaho Conference, the Beavers will be looking to leapfrog the Marsh Valley Eagles as they attempt to break the stretch of bad seasons in American Falls on the hardwood.
