Welcome to "Primetime Pitchers", where each week, we'll highlight the top pitching performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.

We will select one pitching performance for each day of the week.  Think of it as the best pitching line for that particular day.

If you'd like to nominate a Primetime Pitcher, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.

Without further ado, let's get to it!

BASEBALL

Ethan Gilmore, 12, Orofino (Thursday, May 14)

Most pitchers are chasing strikeouts these days, but to me, all that really matters is recording outs.  Gilmore did that in spades in Orofino's 3A State Tournament opener, a 2-0 win over Melba.  Gilmore only logged two strikeouts, but only allowed six hits and one walk, while trusting his defense to make plays behind him.  It all counts the same: a first-round shutout at state.

Carter Bowen, 12, Bonneville (Friday, May 15)

Bonneville kept its season alive with an 8-0 win over Twin Falls in a loser out game at the 5A State Tournament.  Bowen tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits across seven innings of work, with ten strikeouts and one walk.

Blake Barlow, 11, Orofino (Saturday, May 16)

Barlow accomplished something few pitchers every do: tossing a no-hitter in a state championship game.  Barlow blanked Malad in the Maniacs' 14-0 victory, and a lone walk was the only thing that prevented the junior from accomplishing a perfect game.  Barlow struck out five in the win.

SOFTBALL

Charlee Stewart, 9, Glenns Ferry (Thursday, May 14)

Stewart dazzled in the Pilots' 2A State Tournament semifinal win over Clearwater Valley, a 5-0 shutout.  The freshman pitched all seven innings, and allowed three hits and three walks while striking out 14.

McKenna Sutton, 12, Highland (Friday, May 15)

The Rams stunned top-seeded Owyhee in the 6A State Tournament undefeated semifinal game, 2-0, and Sutton's work in the circle led the day.  The senior pitched all seven innings, holding the potent Owyhee offense to no runs on just six hits, with 13 strikeouts and three walks.

Peyton Shook, 12, Nampa Christian (Saturday, May 16)

Shook finished the final chapter of her storied high school career with an exclamation point, pitching a shutout to lead the Trojans to back-to-back state championships with a 12-0 win over Parma in the 3A state championship game.  Shook scattered five hits across five innings of work, with stix strikeouts to just one walk.
