Welcome to "Primetime Pitchers", where each week, we'll highlight the top pitching performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.
We will select one pitching performance for each day of the week. Think of it as the best pitching line for that particular day.
If you'd like to nominate a Primetime Pitcher, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
Without further ado, let's get to it!
BASEBALL
Lukas Hall, 12, Homedale (Monday, April 20)
Hall pitched a one-hit shutout for the Trojans in their 4-0 win over Weiser. The senior struck out 11 and walked only four.
Luke Nelson, 12, Teton (Tuesday, April 21)
Nelson tossed a complete game victory for the Timberwolves in their 3-2 win over South Fremont. Both runs were unearned, and Nelson allowed only two hits and walked only two batters, while striking out 13.
MaCraye Bruning, 12, Kimberly (Wednesday, April 22)
Bruning already made our "Heavy Hitters" list for his performance against Buhl in the first game of a Wednesday doubleheader. In the second game of the twinbill, Bruning took the mound and went the distance, pitching all seven innings in a 3-0 shutout victory. Bruning scattered six hits while striking out 11 and walking one.
Mack Park, 12, Firth (Thursday, April 23)
Park twirled a one-hitter in Firth's 14-0 shutout of West Jefferson. In five innings of work, Park struck out nine and walked none.
Michael Scalzo, 9, Potlatch (Friday, April 24)
Scalzo delivered a five inning one-hit shutout as Potlatch blanked Troy 11-0. The freshman struck out five and walked none.
Jack Meimann, 11, Borah (Saturday, April 25)
We've reached the time of year when postseason results from district tournaments bleed into the end of the regular season. Playoff performances earn more points, and Meimann's performance is a perfect example of that. It's true that Sandpoint's Sage Medeiros threw a five inning no-hitter on Saturday, but Meimann's line carries more weight since it came in a do-or-die single elimination play-in game at the 6A District 3 Tournament. Meimann pitched eight innings of shutout baseball with five hits, ten strikeouts and two walks. Borah eventually won the game, 1-0, in ten innings over Capital.
SOFTBALL
Paityn Ralstin, 10, Lewis County (Monday, April 13)
Ralstin pitched a five inning one-hitter as the Eagles blanked Lapwai 22-0. Ralstin struck out six while walking four in the win.
Hailey Bock, 10, Owyhee and Hailey Brennan, 11, Owyhee (Tuesday, April 14)
In my opinion, Beck and Brennan are both on the short list of best pitchers in Idaho, so the fact that they are both on the same team is a luxury for coach John Carpenter. Normally we don't feature games that go less than five innings, but Bock (three innings) and Brennan (one inning) combined for a no-hitter, and it was almost a perfect game, as Bock issued one walk. But pitchers throw four inning no-hitters all the time and they aren't featured here, so why am I choosing a combined no-hitter that only lasted four innings? Because all twelve outs were recorded via strikeout.
Andrea Pinto, 9, Melba (Wednesday, April 15)
Melba flew past Vision Charter 20-2, and Pinto delivered five strong innings in the win. Pinto allowed two unearned runs on just two hits, while striking out six and walking none.
Hailey Brennan, 11, Owyhee (Thursday, April 16)
Brennan makes the list all by herself this time, as the junior pitched a five inning shutout in Owyhee's 10-0 win over Rocky Mountain. Brennan struck out 12 and walked three.
Kaylee Silver, 12, Gooding (Friday, April 17)
Silver pitched five innings of one-hit ball, allowing one unearned run with three strikeouts and just one walk. Most impressive thing about this performance? It came against the top-ranked team in 4A softball, Kimberly, who lot for just the second time all season. Gooding won by a final score of 12-1.
Reagan Morris, 11, Meridian (Saturday, April 18)
Morris went all seven innings in Meridian's 8-1 victory over Kuna. Morris allowed one run on four his with 11 strikeouts and three walks.
