Here we are, just ONE WEEK before district tournament play starts! As we finished up Week 6, we saw some ups and downs but many teams remained dominant, while others are now starting to come together.
Preparation is key as we head into the week. Many teams are headed to one more tournament this upcoming weekend before district tournaments start. This coming weekend, Butte County hosts their annual "I Pink I Can" Tournament, where small-school powers Horseshoe Bend, Malad, Mackay and Rockland will be. Meanwhile, Pocatello and Skyline are headed to the Cache Valley Challenger Tournament in northern Utah.
These tournaments give great purpose to all teams attending as they provide unique opportunities to face new and challenging competition. These matchups will give teams high quality touches to learn from and will aid in their overall development! Catch the coverage this week as we see what comes from the last few regular season tournaments!
Last week, Malad hosted their annual tournament and the host team took the gold! The Dragons faced a fierce Declo team in the tournament championship and Malad played effective and efficient volleyball. Malad is on top of the Class 2A rankings and they continue to prove why.
The Dragons are led by setter Adley Kimberling and outside hitter Hallie Horsley. The duo leads by example and experience, as they are the only seniors on the squad. Not only are they the lone seniors, but more importantly, they are the team captains to a young Malad squad that follows their hard work and determination! Malad's only losses this season have come from tournament play against out-of-state opponents. We love to see it and wish them the best in the rest of their season!
Another host kept the gold at home as well, as Madison won their Battle of the Best tournament! Madison is also at the top of their classification, leading 5A volleyball. The Bobcats had to face the impressive Bonneville Bees to win their tournament last Saturday. Madison also leads the High Country Conference, and their record reflects their high level of play. The Bobcats are now 16-1 and their only loss comes from a tournament match against a non-conference opponent.
Madison is the defending 5A state champ and they've had a target on their back all season long! They've handled it so well with all the pressure, challenges, and key players that graduated from last year's team.
Ashley Garner is the only senior on the roster this year, but she leads with dedication and helps push her younger teammates. This young squad is not young in the volleyball world, though, as most of these athletes have been playing volleyball together for many years and the chemistry they've been building is astonishing to see! We want to wish them the best of luck heading into the final four weeks of the high school volleyball season!
