Welcome to "Primetime Pitchers", where each week, we'll highlight the top pitching performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.

We will select one pitching performance for each day of the week.  Think of it as the best pitching line for that particular day.

Because the season began on a Wednesday, this weekly rundown will cover the previous week's Wednesday through Tuesday action.

If you'd like to nominate a Primetime Pitcher, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.

Without further ado, let's get to it!

BASEBALL

Porter Higley, Buhl (Wednesday, April 16)

Higley went the distance in Buhl's 6-0 win over Filer in Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference action.  Across seven innings, he allowed only two hits, while striking out 13 and walking none.

Garrison Applegate, Challis-Mackay (Thursday, April 17)

Applegate tossed a five inning one-hitter in a 12-2 Nuclear Conference win over West Jefferson.  Applegate allowed two unearned runs on just one hit in five innings of action.  He struck out 13 and walked three.

Kace Stapleton, Rigby (Friday, April 18)

When Rigby needed a strong performance against High Country Conference rival Thunder Ridge, Stapleton answered the call.  In a seven inning complete game victory, Stapleton allowed one run on just two hits in a 6-1 win.  He struck out 13 Titans while walking none, and did all of his work on an extremely efficient 72 pitches.

Cole Young, North Star Charter and Trayven Sickels, Grangeville (Saturday, April 19)

For the first time in this space, we are awarding multiple Primetime Pitchers from separate teams on the same day.  And it's for a good reason: both Young and Sickels threw no-hitters on Saturday.  In fact, each missed out on a perfect game by one walk.  For Young, he struck out 11 over five innings in a 15-0 win over Lighthouse Christian.  Sickels struck out nine over five innings in a 19-0 triumph over Priest River.

Jahzyon Sylva, Payette (Monday, April 21)

Sylva twirled a one-hit shutout over six strong frames in a 9-0 win against McCall-Donnelly in Snake River Valley Conference play.  Sylva struck out 12 Vandals while walking none.

Ian Lenius, Middleton (Tuesday, April 22)

Pound for pound, Ian Lenius (a University of Utah commit) may be Idaho's most talented pitcher.  His skills were on display in a 4-1 win over Southern Idaho Conference rival Eagle.  In seven innings, Lenius allowed one unearned run on two hits, while striking out 17 batters and walking only one.

SOFTBALL

Taylor Martinez, Glenns Ferry (Wednesday, April 16)

Martinez pitched a no-hitter in a 13-1 win over Idaho City in Western Idaho Conference action.  Two walks and four errors were the only blemishes on the day, and it led to an unearned run.  Otherwise, Martinez notched 13 strikeouts in a solid effort.

Peyton Bargen, Eagle (Thursday, April 17)

Bargen threw a one-hitter in a 12-0 win over Southern Idaho Conference foe Rocky Mountain.  In five innings of action, she struck out 12 and walked none.

Shae Jones, Timberlake (Friday, April 18)

This freshman has really been opening eyes this season, and her no-hitter against Kellogg was just another example of her blossoming potential.  In a 21-0 win, Jones allowed no hits, no runs and no walks, while striking out 13.  The only thing keeping Jones from a perfect game was a defensive error.

Peyton Lenz, North Fremont (Saturday, April 19)

At the Scott Ray Tournament in Malad, Lenz pitched a seven-inning gem in a 7-1 win over Marsing.  Lenz allowed one run on six scattered hits, while striking out 14 Huskies and walking two.

Riglee Peterson, Malad (Monday, April 21)

For the second consecutive Monday, Peterson was our top pitcher.  Her stat lines from both starts are remarkably similar:

Monday, April 14: 5 innings pitched, one hit allowed, one unearned run, 12 strikeouts in a 21-1 win over Firth

Monday, April 21: 5 innings pitched, one hit allowed, no runs allowed, 13 strikeouts in a 13-0 win over Soda Springs

Makenna Shamy, Skyview (Tuesday, April 22)

Shamy threw a perfect game in a 13-0 win over Southern Idaho Conference rival Columbia.  In five innings of work, Shamy faced and retired the minimum number of batters (15).  10 of her 15 outs came via strikeout.  She also homered twice offensively to win our Heavy Hitter award for Tuesday, as well.
