It feels like an eternity ago, but we still haven't 'officially' wrapped up the high school football season... we still have one very important game to be played.

The East Idaho All-Star Football Game will once again take place over Memorial Day weekend on May 27th at Blackfoot High School's Hartkopf Field, with kickoff slated for 6:00 pm. The game will pit senior all-star players from District 5 against their counterparts from District 6 for ultimate bragging rights on the eastern side of the state. (There is one minor tweak this year - players from Blackfoot High School in District 6 will be competing for the District 5 squad).

And if history is any indication, this game is probably going to go down to the wire.  While District 6 currently holds a four-game win streak in the current incarnation of the All-Star Game, every game has been decided in the final few moments. Let's hope I didn't just jinx it.

All-Star Game organizer Travis Hobson says that while working to get everything in place for the event can be hectic, especially while working around spring sports and tournaments, the chance to give the seniors one final hurrah is well worth the effort.

"This game is a unique opportunity for players to team up with former rivals to take on players from teams that still remain rivals," he said. "The game allows for those players who excelled on the gridiron in the fall to have one last chance to strap up the helmets and shoulder pads under the Friday night lights."

The coaching staffs for this year's All-Star Game include Highland and American Falls for District 5 and Skyline and Sugar-Salem for District 6. A number of college coaches are also expected to be in attendance. Numerous players have been offered scholarships to college football programs throughout the region as a result of their play in previous editions of the All-Star Game.

As we have done in the past, IdahoSports.com will provide the LIVE and FREE video stream of the event, which can be viewed by clicking here. Or, come join us in person at Blackfoot High School and cheer on these seniors. Tickets are $5 each.
