6A Classification

- Coeur d’Alene’s (6-0) stingy defense continued to impress in a 30-0 shutout of 5A Lewiston (3-3).  Tannar Stern completed 14-of-21 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns and added 52 yards and a touchdown rushing.  Gibson Comstock caught all three touchdown passes and finished with 79 yards on five receptions.

- Rocky Mountain (4-1 overall, 2-0 Southern Idaho Conference Foothills Division) remained perfect in division play thanks to a 29-7 win over Meridian (3-2, 0-2).  Senior running back Oakley Baxter rushed for two scores, senior Laird Stuart added a third rushing touchdown and Qhycyn Schellhous threw a touchdown pass to Owen Oelkers in the win. 

- Mountain View is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the SIC Foothills Division after a 41-11 win over Timberline (1-4, 0-2).  A narrow 20-11 lead at halftime quickly ballooned as Mountain View outscored the Wolves 21-0.  Among the second half highlights for Mountain View was a pick-six from Beau Stewart.

- In the third SIC Foothills Division contest from Friday, Kuna (2-3, 1-1) slipped past Capital (3-2, 1-1) by a score of 27-21.  Kuna’s Lino Senio completed 13-of-24 passes for 175 yards and two scores (one to DJ Governor, one to Payton Martin).  Senio also ran for 47 yards and a touchdown and Governor rushed for 78 yards and a score.

- Eagle (4-2 overall, 2-0 Southern Idaho Conference River Division) handed Boise (5-1, 1-1) its first loss of the season in a 28-8 triumph.  Bowen Blackburn carried the ball 29 times for 248 yards and a touchdown for the Mustangs.  Devin Ramsey added a rushing touchdown, Jace Dahlgren threw a touchdown pass to and Kia Williams returned an interception to round out the scoring for Eagle.

- With starting quarterback Britton Johnston still missing due to injury, Lake City (4-2) promoted JV quarterback Jax Pearson for his first varsity start on Friday night against 5A Sandpoint (4-2).  The sophomore completed 13-of-24 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown in Lake City’s 35-27 win.  Brayden Van Leuven led the ground game with 194 yards and four touchdowns for the Timberwolves as well.

- A scoreless battle through one half of play, Madison (5-1) finally eased past 5A Skyline (3-2), 21-7 thanks to a couple of explosive touchdown runs from Mace Mortensen.  Mortensen found the end zone on runs of 72 and 94 yards.  Those touchdown runs were sandwiched around a three-yard scoring strike from Jett Walker to Brahm Thompson.


5A Classification

 - Bishop Kelly improved to 5-0 with a 44-21 win over 6A Middleton (0-5).  Jaxson Brady completed 17-of-24 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown.  The UC Davis commit added 121 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and Eli Lynes ran for 112 yards and two scores as well.  

- Hillcrest (5-0) is still unbeaten after a 52-22 thrashing of 6A Thunder Ridge (3-2).  Logan Taylor was 11-of-18 passing for 262 yards and three touchdowns in the win.  He also ran for 31 yards and a score.  Elam Miner rushed for 126 yard and two scores for Hillcrest and Gavin Lamph caught five passes for 151 yards and all three touchdowns.

- Columbia (4-1 overall, 2-0 Southern Idaho Conference) blew past Ridgevue (1-4, 0-2), 63-42.  Santiago Carbajal ran for 261 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats.  Easton Zickgraf added 77 yards passing with three touchdowns.  The Wildcats battle Bishop Kelly this week in a matchup that could decide the SIC title.

- The Falcons (2-3 overall, 1-2 SIC) and Patriots (1-4, 1-2) went to overtime knotted at 7-7.  Vallivue had the ball first in overtime and found the end zone on a five-yard run from Sawyer Pool.  The Falcons’ point-after try missed, leaving the score at 13-7.  On Centennial’s possession, a fourth-down run from Malachi Hatfield was snuffed out, preserving the win for Vallivue.

- We’re going to fast forward to the fourth quarter of this wild Southern Idaho Conference affair.  Skyview (2-3 overall, 1-2 SIC) took a 14-7 lead with 7:24 to play on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Trevan Plew to Luke Evans.  But Nampa (3-2, 2-1) mounted a comeback, scoring on a 21-yard touchdown pass of its own with just 50 seconds remaining.  After Rocky Reyna hit Tony Bochenski with the 21-yard score, first-year Nampa coach Trampis Waite opted to go for the two-point conversion.  Reyna found Bryndon Tubbs for the successful conversion and the Bulldogs earned the 15-14 win.

 - Twin Falls (2-3 overall, 1-0 Great Basin Conference) claimed another victory over Canyon Ridge (1-4, 0-1) in the annual Service Bowl rivalry game between the two Twin Falls-based schools.  The Bruins’ 34-14 win saw everyone contribute.  Ethan Hubsmith threw for 99 yards and two touchdowns and wide receiver Bryce Nielsen also threw a 39-yard touchdown pass on a trick play.  Hubsmith and Jackson Sattelberg each scored rushing touchdowns, and Nielsen, Draikyn Ferreira and Ashton Hunt-Pyeatt all caught touchdown passes.

- For the first time since 2004, Burley (3-2 overall, 1-0 Great Basin Conference) defeated Minico (2-3, 0-1) in the annual River Rivalry game, 15-12.  The Bobcats held a nine-point lead in the final minute, but Minico made things interesting late.  The Spartans scored, recovered an onside kick and drove into scoring position before ultimately running out of time.

- How good is the 5A High Country Conference this year?  Just one point separated Bonneville (3-2 overall, 2-1 HCC) and Pocatello (1-4, 0-4) on Friday night.  Jaxton Briggs threw for 237 yards and a touchdown to Ryan Flynn in the Bees’ 7-6 win.  Flynn finished with three grabs for 105 yards.  Sophomore Cooper Pugmire delivered the critical point-after kick.


4A Classification

- This Snake River Valley Conference rivalry game came down to the final moments.  Homedale (5-0 overall, 1-0 SRV) started the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run from Tyce Fisher.  Weiser (3-2, 0-1) answered on a pair of touchdown runs from Zayn Crossley and Garrett Walker and led at halftime, 14-7.  Homedale scored in the third quarter on a five-yard run from Daniel Juarez, but missed the extra point, leaving the Trojans down by one, 14-13.  Weiser again scored on a run from Crossley, but this time the Wolverines missed the extra point, leaving Weiser’s lead at 20-13.  When Kreece Powell connected with Alec Campos for a 35-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, Homedale coach Matt Holtry elected to go for the two-point conversion and a potential lead rather than try a PAT to tie the game.  Homedale failed on the two-point try, so again Homedale trailed by one, 20-19.  But after Weiser fumbled deep in its own territory, Homedale found new life.  The Trojans were able to run the clock all the way down to the final seconds, and Alejandro Martinez kicked a 22-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Trojans to the 22-20 victory.

- Fruitland (4-1 overall, 1-0 Snake River Valley Conference) earned its first league win over Emmett (4-1, 0-1) by a score of 33-21.  Titus Vidlak threw for 214 yards, but his legs really told the tale: 14 carries for 214 yards and three touchdowns.  Killian Wilson added 75 yards and two scores on the ground.

- Preston (0-4) made a valiant fourth-quarter comeback, but the hole was too deep in a 49-35 loss to Sugar-Salem (5-1).  Seven different Sugar-Salem ball-carriers rushed for 312 yards and seven touchdowns in the win.  Quarterback Frank Fillmore led the way with three rushing touchdowns.

- Shhh, don’t tell anyone, but South Fremont is now 5-1 after a 27-8 win over American Falls (3-3).  The Cougars have defeated three of the four members of District 5’s South East Idaho Conference (Bear Lake, Snake River and American Falls).  This week, they’ll tangle with the fourth and final member of the District 5 (Preston).  If South Fremont keeps piling up the wins, not only will they lay claim to being the District 5 “champion”, but they’ll possibly wrestle away the District 6 title from Sugar-Salem.


3A Classification

- West Side (5-0) went to Declo (5-1) and defeated the Hornets in a tight battle of former conference rivals, 21-14.  The Pirates opened up a 14-0 lead on a two-yard touchdown run by Mason Williams and a 54-yard scoring strike from Bronco Moser to Ezra Benavidez.  Declo answered in the third quarter on a five-yard run from Jett Snedaker to trim the gap to 14-7, but the Pirates engineered a long drive of their own that was capped by a one-yard plunge from Drake Sage.  Declo again answered on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Traecyn Thaxton to Snedaker, but the Hornets could not find the end zone again, ultimately falling 21-14.

- West Jefferson (5-1 overall, 1-0 Nuclear Conference) churned out 328 rushing yards in its 27-7 win over defending Nuke champ Ririe (1-5, 0-1).  Canon Calder ran for 161 yards and a score and Bruer Burtenshaw added 160 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

- Defending 3A state champ Nampa Christian (3-2 overall, 1-0 WIC) edged past New Plymouth (1-4, 0-1) in the WIC opener for both teams, 21-15.  Ben Knudson threw for 105 yards and a touchdown to Isaac Norris in the win while Mason Mills led the ground attack with 44 yards and two scores.

- Buhl (4-1) earned a hard-fought road win over 4A Wood River (4-1), handing the Wolverines their first loss in the process.  The Indians rushed for 377 yards in the win.  The ground game was led by Raidyn Pugsley (24 carries, 163 yards, two touchdowns) and Kannon Gambrel (16 carries, 116 yards, one touchdown.)

- St. Maries (1-4 overall, 1-1 Central Idaho League) earned its first win of the year in dramatic fashion in a 12-6 win over Orofino (0-5, 0-1).  Tied at 6-6, and with 37 seconds remaining, the Lumberjacks scored the winning touchdown when Logan Wilcox hit Jaxson Harold on a 67-yard pass.


2A Classification

- Hagerman (4-1 overall, 2-0 Snake River Conference) earned a hard-fought win at Oakley (3-2, 1-2) by a 36-30 margin.  Quarterback Will Mavencamp threw a touchdown pass to Cameron Clausse, but it was his work running the football that stood out: 16 carries for 245 yards and two touchdowns.  Clausse also returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown for the Pirates.

- Raft River (5-0 overall, 3-0 SRC) blanked Glenns Ferry (1-4, 1-1), 66-0.  Bo Udy completed 6-of-10 passes for 95 yards and three touchdowns.  Udy added 82 yards and two scores on the ground and James Dalton ran for 129 yards and two scores on just nine totes.  

- Prairie (5-1 overall, 1-0 Whitepine League) sent a loud message not just to the rest of the league, but to the entire state in its 52-6 win over Kamiah (2-3, 0-1).  Kade Quintal threw three touchdown passes for Isaiah Warren (in the starting lineup for injured starter Cooper Riener).  Quintal also ran for two scores, as did Marshall Weber.

- Wallace (5-0) shook off a slow start and turned on the afterburners in the second half of play in its 64-30 win over 1A Troy (1-4).  Cooper Miller threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns while running for 115 yards and a fifth score.  Lennox Radford caught three passes for 88 yards and two scores, returned an interception for a touchdown and ran back a kickoff 80 yards for his fourth touchdown of the night for Wallace.

- It took two extra periods of play, but Garden Valley (3-2 overall, 2-0 Western Idaho Conference) dethroned defending WIC champ Notus (3-2, 1-1) in double overtime, 50-44.  Payson Kelly completed 16-of-25 passes for 290 yards and a touchdown.  He also ran for 45 yards and four scores, including the game-winner in the second overtime.  Ezrah Marchand hauled in nine balls for 177 yards and a touchdown for Garden Valley as well.


1A Classification

- Good things came in threes for Kendrick (6-0 overall, 1-0 Whitepine League) in its 58-12 win over Genesee (0-5, 0-1).  Quarterback Maddox Kirkland (9-of-10, 136 yards, three touchdowns), running back Orion Stewart (eight carries, 153 yards, three touchdowns) and wide receiver Hudson Kirkland (seven catches, 121 yards, three touchdowns) all scored thrice for the Tigers.

- Carey (5-0 overall, 3-0 Sawtooth Conference) remained unbeaten with a 44-6 win over Richfield (3-2, 0-2).  Madden Perkes ran for 210 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Jonah Saili added 85 rushing yards and three scores.  Saili also threw a touchdown pass to Hadley Hunt.  Sophomore Tayton Sears snagged two interceptions on defense for the Panthers.

- With standout running back Jon Denke limited by an ankle injury, Coeur du Christ (5-0) turned to junior quarterback Grant Clemens and its defense to win the day in a 40-18 victory over Salmon River (5-1).  Clemens completed 17-of-25 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns.  He also carried the ball 20 times for 121 yards and three touchdowns.  The Saints’ defense also came away with three takeaways, as Clemens and Beckett Beyer each intercepted a pass and Matthew Junkin recovered a fumble. 

- Rockland (5-0 overall, 1-0 Rocky Mountain Conference) blitzed past Sho-Ban (0-4, 0-1) in the conference opener for both teams, 62-6.  Zach Permann carried the ball four times for 62 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 40 yards and two scores.  He also returned an interception for a touchdown.  Xavier Parrish completed 7-of-9 passes for 107 yards and four scores for the Bulldogs as well.
