6A Classification
- Part one of the 19th annual Rocky Mountain Rumble took place at Idaho State University’s ICCU Dome in Pocatello, and Idaho earned a split with Utah. Bear River defeated Thunder Ridge (0-1) in a high-scoring affair, 49-35, and the hosts from Highland (0-2) fell to Box Elder, 31-19. But Madison (2-0) and Rigby (2-0) helped even the score. The Bobcats blanked Riverton 27-0 (and still haven’t allowed a single point this year through eight quarters of play), while Rigby turned back Farmington 27-16. The Rumble continues this weekend with a tripleheader on Saturday: Lethbridge (Canada) vs. Riverton (Wyoming), Raymond (Canada) vs. Star Valley (Wyoming) and Dietrich vs. Rockland. - Eagle improved to 2-0 this season with a 32-14 victory over Timberline. The Mustangs and Wolves met in last year’s Southern Idaho Conference Championship Game (which has been discontinued this season), with Timberline earning a 35-33 walk-off win. Bowen Blackburn ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns for Eagle while junior quarterback Jace Dahlgren was an efficient 13-of-16 passing for 121 yards and two scores (both touchdown passes went to Luke Mikita). Mikita also added ten tackles and a forced fumble on defense while Camden Harrison logged 11 stops. Timberline (0-1) was led by Lucas Caldwell’s 129 yards passing with two touchdowns.
- Mountain View senior Ryder Hollifield set the bar high in his first varsity start at quarterback, completing 21-of-22 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns. Hollifield also ran for a score as the Mavericks (1-0) blew past Middleton, 44-7. Fellow senior Colin Foy also took snaps at quarterback for the Mavs and Foy added 101 yards and two scores through the air. Middleton (0-1) quarterback Briar Baughman rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
- Boise (2-0) defeated its crosstown rivals from Capital (0-1) for just the second time since 1988 in style, cruising to a 42-27 win. Logan McDonald ran wild, piling up 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns on his way to IdahoSports.com Player of the Game honors. The Brave as a team rushed for 228 yards. Capital’s Quincey Clay threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 74 yards and a score.
- Rocky Mountain (1-0) pitched a 35-0 shutout over Owyhee (0-1) in the season opener for both squads. Laird Stuart rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns for the Grizzlies while Qhycyn Schellhous completed 9-of-15 passes for 154 yards and two scores (both to Owen Oelkers). The scoring was punctuated by a 100-yard pick-six by Kade Wooten.
- Coeur d’Alene (2-0) earned revenge over Silverton (Oregon) with a 37-7 win. Silverton is the reigning 5A champion from Oregon and defeated the Vikings 21-14 last year. Senior Tannar Stern threw for 333 yards and four touchdowns and added 55 yards and a touchdown rushing. Gibson Comstock (six catches, 155 yards) and Maddox Lindquist (two catches, 97 yards) each caught two touchdown passes.
5A Classification
- Seven games were decided by a single possession at this level. The closest victory was Sandpoint’s 15-14 road triumph over 6A Kuna. Sandpoint (2-0) erased a 14-0 deficit at halftime thanks to a two-yard touchdown run by quarterback Logan Iverson and a six-yard touchdown run from Brock Yarbrough. Sandpoint missed both of its two-point tries, though, which left the score at 14-12 with a minute to play. That’s when Yarbrough calmly knocked home a 31-yard field goal, propelling Sandpoint to the one-point victory. Kuna (0-1) was led by Kale Plummer’s 144 yards and one touchdown rushing.
- The next-closest encounter also came in a one-point win, as Minico (1-1) held serve at home in a 22-21 victory over Ridgeuve (0-2). Ridgevue took a 21-14 lead with 7:32 to play in the third period, but Minico answered with eight points to steal back the lead and eventually earn the win. Senior Hunter Schmittel threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns for the Warhawks in the loss. Ridgevue is now 0-2 with a pair of one-point losses.
- Canyon Ridge (1-0) won its season opener over 5A newcomer Centennial (0-1) by just two points, 30-28. Riverhawks quarterback Kellen Kunz found Jack Rothweiler twice for touchdown passes, and Jaxon Preston returned a kickoff for a score, as well. Centennial’s Madden Henderson threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns.
- Skyline (1-0 overall, 1-0 High Country Conference) outlasted Bonneville (0-1, 0-1) in a rainy battle, 18-14. The game not only served as the season opener for both teams, but it also marked the beginning of conference play. Skyline’s points came courtesy of a field goal, a 51-yard touchdown pass from John Giannini to Taleai Molifua and a 15-yard touchdown run from Giannini. Bonneville scored on a 20-yard pass from Jaxton Briggs to Kaine Rodriguez, and a 25-yard run from Cooper Stephenson.
- Lakeland dropped a 28-24 decision to 6A Lake City, giving the Timberwolves their first victory over the Hawks since 2021. Trailing 24-21 with 6:01 to play, backup quarterback Knox Keogh (subbing for injured starter Britton Johnston) threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Landon Leveque to give Lake City (1-1) a lead they would never relinquish. Keogh threw for 122 yards while Brayden Van Leuven ran for 195 yards and two scores. Lakeland was paced by Griffin Tamagni’s 135 yards rushing and two scores, and Trent Boardman also returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown for Lakeland (0-2).
- Valliuve (1-0) outlasted Twin Falls (0-2) in a defensive affair, 13-8. The Falcons’ defense held the Bruins to a single score, and both Devon Kautzky and Izzy Pina snagged interceptions. Evert Eells added three sacks and a forced fumble to the defensive effort. Offensively, Vallivue was paced by junior Cam Anderson’s 120 yards of total offense. The signal-caller threw for 66 yards and added 44 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground. Jackson Sattelberg rushed for 58 yards and a score for Twin Falls.
- Bishop Kelly (1-0) opened its title defense with a seven-point win over Aquinas (Cal.). The Knights’ 20-13 win featured three touchdowns from senior quarterback Jaxson Brady (two passing scores and a 67-yard touchdown run).
4A Classification
- The beat goes on for defending 4A champ Homedale. The Trojans (2-0) enjoyed a 33-21 win over Central Catholic High from Modesto, Calif., in the home opener for Homedale. Kreece Powell completed 24-of-33 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns. Alec Campos caught two of those scores and finished with 10 receptions for 165 yards. Boston Garrett and Aron Sotelo caught the other two scores for the Trojans.
- Sugar-Salem (1-1) rebounded from last week’s loss to Homedale with a 35-0 shutout of Snake River (0-2). The Diggers held Snake River to 71 yards rushing and zero yards passing. Declan Richins (110 yards rushing), Frank Fillmore (69 yards), Latrell Markle (56 yards) and Kai Benfield (11 yards) all ran for touchdowns in the win. Fillmore also threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Kolter Harris.
- Weiser (1-1) bounced back from a one-point loss in overtime last week with a resounding 34-0 shutout of Burns (Ore.). Ty Cobb rushed for 131 yards while Klete Cook threw for 105 yards and a score for the Wolverines. Jansten Walker also feasted, rushing for 83 yards and two touchdowns on only four carries.
- Bonners Ferry improved to 2-0 with a 31-20 win over 3A Priest River (0-1). Alex Stolley led the way, completing 10-of-16 passes for 112 yards and two scores while adding 73 yards and two additional touchdowns rushing. Riston Allred caught both touchdown passes from Stolley. Priest River’s Colton Kuprienko ran for 59 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
- It’s safe to say there was some pent-up energy for several 4A teams entering the second week of competition. Seven different teams crossed the forty-point threshold: Wood River (41-6 win over Nyssa, Ore.), Emmett (47-21 win over Preston), Bear Lake (48-0 win over North Fremont), McCall-Donnelly (50-6 win over Payette), Gooding (57-36 win over Jerome), Cole Valley Christian (60-14 win over Filer) and Timberlake (61-12 win over St. Maries).
- At the other end of the spectrum is American Falls, which survived its rivalry game with 3A Aberdeen by a final of 7-6. Deadlocked at 0-0 through one half, Aberdeen (1-1) broke through with a seven-yard touchdown run from Adan Valdez in the third period. The Tigers’ two-point try was snuffed out, however, leaving the score at 6-0. The Beavers (1-0) finally broke through in the fourth quarter when Zack Resindiz scored on a two-yard plunge. The extra point was true, and American Falls led, 7-6. Aberdeen pieced together one final drive and advanced all the way to the American Falls seven-yard line, but the Tigers couldn’t punch it in from there, turning the ball over on downs to end the game.
3A Classification
- Declo (2-0) handled defending 3A champ Nampa Christian (0-1), 37-16. Traecyn Thaxton completed 17-of-23 passes for 306 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while also rushing for 28 yards and a score. Dane Garrard and Dawson Darrington also scored rushing touchdowns while Dacx Garrard and Mason Smith each caught touchdown passes.
- West Side is also 2-0 after a 35-7 win over Firth (0-1). Grant Vasquez returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown for Firth, but the Cougars gained just 17 yards of offense after that. West Side’s Drake Sage ran for 168 yards and four touchdowns while Will Hurren chipped in 51 yards rushing and a score. Bronco Moser completed 6-of-8 passes for 50 yards. Hurren caught four of those passes for 37 yards.
- Melba is another 2-0 squad, as the Mustangs blew past Marsh Valley (0-2), 51-0. Junior Noah Wiersma dissected the Eagles’ defense, completing 12-of-16 passes for 243 yards and five touchdowns. Owen Hansen and Rhett Franklin each caught two touchdown passes while Elias Shoemaker hauled in one. Franklin also rushed for 116 yards and two scores on just six carries.
- Don’t look now, but Logos is also 2-0 after many fans statewide wondered how the Knights would adjust to 11-man football after voluntarily moving up from 2A and the eight-man game. Logos (2-0 overall, 1-0 Central Idaho League) turned back Kellogg (0-2, 0-1), 57-30 in a Thursday night showdown. IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Baxter Covington threw for 141 yards and a touchdown while also running for more than 100 yards and two scores. Justice Mallery also scored three times on the ground for Logos. Porter Lewis threw two touchdowns and ran for a third for Kellogg.
- 3A newcomer Buhl won its season opener at New Plymouth by one score, 27-20. Kannon Gambrel rushed for more than 200 yards for the Indians and also scored a pair of touchdowns.
- Grangeville (1-1) nipped 4A Moscow (0-2) in a defensive battle, 10-6. Moscow’s Keaton Frei scored the opening points on a touchdown run in the first quarter, but his subsequent rush on the two-point try was stuffed. From there, Grangeville scored a safety to make the score 6-2 at halftime. Finally, the Bulldogs took the lead on a 4-yard touchdown run by Troy Long in the third period.
2A Classification
- Lapwai won its first game since Oct. 11, 2024, as the Wildcats (1-1) trounced 1A Genesee, 48-30. Jereese McCormack threw for 65 yards and a touchdown while adding 139 yards and a score rushing. Chase Brown carried the ball 10 times for 94 yards and three scores, and the senior added eight tackles on defense. Douglas Pappan caught three passes for 42 yards and a touchdown and snagged an interception on defense. Genesee (0-2) was led by Jackson Banks, who threw two touchdown passes and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a score.
- 1A Deary built up a 22-8 lead over Prairie, but the Pirates calmly erased the gap and earned the come-from-behind win by scoring a touchdown and two-point conversion over each of the final two quarters. Kade Quintal threw for 162 yards and two touchdowns for Prairie (one to Cooper Riener, one to Sam Rehder). Tate Uhlenkott also ran in a four-yard touchdown for the Pirates (2-0). Deary (1-1) was led by senior Blake Clark, who caught three passes for 57 yards and a touchdown while also racking up 18 tackles and a forced fumble on defense.
- Grace (1-1) and Oakley (1-0) went back-and-forth down the stretch, but a 44-yard touchdown from Payden Robinson to Bridger Conant on a screen pass late in the fourth quarter pushed the Hornets past the Grizzlies, 30-26. Robinson also threw a touchdown pass to Camden Cranney while Kohl Beck ran for a score and returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Grace was led by Tate Stoddard, who caught three passes for 58 yards and two scores while stockpiling 18 tackles and a sack on defense.
- Butte County has already surpassed its win total from a year ago, as the Pirates moved past Valley, 66-26, to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Pirates went 1-8 a season ago, but have turned the corner in 2026. In this contest, Butte County rushed for 480 yards and nine touchdowns. Quarterback Cooper Williams led the way with 134 yards and three scores while Teagan Babcock (145 yards, two touchdowns) and Caleb Brock (105 yards, 2 touchdowns) also turned in fine efforts. Valley (0-1) quarterback Damian Traughber scored two rushing touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Blayne Jarvis.
- Can anyone stop Notus’ junior running back Mark Lungu? Glenns Ferry (0-1) got the first crack at it on Friday and allowed Lungu to carry the ball 29 times for 332 yards and four touchdowns. Joshua Yung added 15 carries for 108 yards and a score as the Pirates (1-0) rolled to a 42-20 win. Glenns Ferry’s Carson Traudt threw two touchdown passes to Brayden Spriggs in the loss.
1A Classification
- Carey opened its 1A title defense with a 54-8 victory over North Gem (1-1). Panthers quarterback Jonah Saili was an efficient 7-of-8 passing for 114 yards and a touchdown (to Tripp Bailey). The junior signal-caller also ran for 47 yards and four scores. Madden Perkes added 109 yards and a touchdown while Shoshone transfer Hadley Hunt impressed in his Carey debut with 90 yards rushing and a touchdown to go along with a team-high 14 tackles on defense.
- Kendrick improved to 2-0 with a 42-6 win over 2A Kamiah. Orion Stewart rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries while also hauling in six passes for 114 yards and two scores. The senior also led the Tigers’ defense with 13 stops. Maddox Kirkland threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns, adding a score on the ground as well. The Tigers also collected five sacks (2.5 from Reece Tefft, 1.5 from Nathan Kimberling and one from Hudson Kirkland). Kamiah (0-1) was led by Gatlin Griffith’s 33 yards and one touchdown rushing.
- Salmon River (2-0) sizzled on offense once again as the Savages ran past 2A Potlatch (0-2), 50-28. Blake Shepherd threw for 140 yards and three scores, ran for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and came up with 12 tackles and an interception on defense. Noah Cereghino rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns and Kingston Pyle notched 14 tackles and two sacks. Potlatch quarterback Trey Magallon threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third.
- The gold star for most points in week two, however, belongs to Richfield. The Tigers sprinted past Watersprings (0-1) 74-8 to win their first game of the season. Brooks Kent threw three touchdown passes to three different receivers (Kellen Peck, Kooper Torgerson and Eli Lopez) in the win. Peck also ran for a touchdown, and Kent ran for two additional scores. Jace Oliver also found the end zone twice on the ground. The Warriors’ touchdown came on a kickoff return touchdown from Sean Perry.
- Hansen and Murtaugh rekindled their rivalry in the annual Wagon Wheel Game, and for the first time since 2012, the Wagon Wheel is headed home with Hansen. The Huskies (1-0) earned a tight 28-20 win over the Red Devils (0-2). Carson Mulberry and Zane Call each rushed for two touchdowns for Hansen, while the Stanger cousins starred for Murtaugh. Jackson Stanger threw two touchdown passes to Preston Stanger, and Preston also scored a rushing touchdown.
