Sharing The Ball
Garden Valley head coach Jason Yearsley isn't afraid to spread the action around when his team is on the field. In Friday's Long Pin win over Cascade, Garden Valley (5-3 overall, 1-3 Long Pin) used four different quarterbacks who completed passes to five different receivers, had 12 different ball-carriers, and had 18 different players credited with at least one tackle. Seniors Tyler Rowland and Tristin Leslie, along with junior Marshall Coley, led the team with four touches on offense.
Soaring Sears
It seems unlikely with just one game left on the schedule and the conference title already clinched, but Carey senior Stockton Sears has a chance to crack 2,000 yards rushing on Friday when the Panthers face 2A Valley in a non-conference matchup in Hazelton. Through eight games, Sears has 85 carries for 1,667 yards - a whopping 16.9 yards per carry - and 24 touchdowns for the top-ranked Panthers. When you factor in receptions and return yardage, Sears has eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark in all-purpose yards (2,027). He also has 69 tackles, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries on defense.
A Tale Of Two Halves
It was a highly anticipated matchup between 2A powers, and it did not disappoint. In the first half, the Logos Knights did a magnificent job of powering the ball up the middle and controlling the time of possession to take a 16-14 lead over undefeated and top-ranked Kendrick. In the second half, the tables turned as Kendrick's running game got going. Orion Stewart, Nathan Tweit, and Tanner Clemenhagen ran the Tigers into the lead and into control en route to a 48-24 victory that was much closer and more competitive than the score would indicate.
