1. Wyatt Mavencamp (Hagerman)
One week after being held to less than 70 passing yards, the senior exploded for 450 yards through the air and ten - 10! - scoring tosses in Hagerman's important conference win over rival Valley. His ten scores came on just 18 completions, and he also rushed for 142 yards and another score.
2. Stockton Sears (Carey)
Imagine rushing for 379 yards and six touchdowns and seeing a "2" next to your name on a 3 Stars list. Sears added a seventh score on a kickoff return during Friday's conference win over Castleford. Oh, and he had 11 tackles on defense for the Panthers.
3. Lawson Landmark (Kamiah)
Facing one of the top defenses in the state, the junior quarterback completed 16 of 26 passes for 198 yards and a touchdown while also leading his team's ground attack with 96 rushing yards in the Kubs' 22-20 win over Logos. Landmark's short run with only a minute left to play provided the winning points for Kamiah.

Rising Tide of the Sawtooth Conference
A fun trend has emerged in the 1A Sawtooth Conference in District 4. In 2021 and 2022, Castleford had back-to-back nine-win seasons to buoy toward the top of the conference. In 2023, Hagerman (now 2A) jumped to nine wins after winning just four the year before, and Camas County reached the classification's state title game. Shoshone went from zero wins in 2023 to five wins and a playoff berth in 2024. Dietrich played for the state championship last season, just the latest example of how these conference rivals have spent the better part of this decade playing leapfrog. The early front-runner for this year's fast-riser? The Hansen Huskies. Hansen topped Richfield on Friday to improve to 3-0. Dating back to the 2009 season, the Huskies have won three games in a campaign three times...but never four. Head coach Toby Lapp's team faces its biggest challenge to date following its bye week when it hosts perennial 1A power Carey on September 26.
High-Flying Miners
Three games, three wins for the 1A Wallace Miners in the North Star League. In the three wins, the team has totaled 68, 68 and 66 points. Super-sophomore Cooper Miller is averaging nearly 300 yards of total offense per game, is completing 75 percent of his throws, and has eleven touchdown passes through three games. Fellow sophomore Lennox Radford had five scores in Friday's win over Clark Fork, giving him a team-high nine TDs so far.
Whitepine Power
Going into the week, three teams - Kamiah, Prairie and Potlatch - sat atop the 2A Whitepine standings, and none of them was four-time defending state champion Kendrick. Yeah, it's misleading because Kendrick hasn't played a conference game yet (that changes Friday when the Tigers host Clearwater Valley), but it can be instructive to the depth that is emerging in the league. Kendrick will be a tall order for anyone, averaging over 70 points per game thus far and allowing, on average, less than three. But Prairie (56) and Potlatch (55) are both showing big-play potential on offense, while Logos (10) and Kamiah (13) are both holding opponents to fewer than 14 points per contest. There are seven teams in the Whitepine this fall - could it get six bids into the 2A state playoffs?
