From the mat to the bike, South Fremont's Beau Hackworth is a fierce, disciplined competitor

Name: Beau Hackworth
School:
South Fremont High School
Grade:
Senior
Sport:
Wrestling

How did you first get interested in your wrestling?
From other students in my class that were wrestling.  I started when I was in elementary school.

What's your favorite sport to play?
I like to skateboard and ride BMX because of the discipline and atmosphere it creates. I also enjoy dirt bike riding.  It is a different feeling than that of school sports.  To be good at these other sports, it takes a lot of self-discipline.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from high school sports?
Self-discipline. In the sport of wrestling, you are the one that is held accountable for things such as maintaining weight and your success.  You have to be able to control your emotions and they often can run high in wrestling.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Learn from wrestling, not only to compete, but to prepare for life as well. Jeremy Simmons helped me to realize this at at time when it was such a grind to continue to compete.

What has been your favorite high school memory so far?
Being able to wrestle with my older brother Trenton, my close friends Jace Hughes and Easton Banta. We created a lot of memories over the couple of years.

What coaches or teachers have made the biggest impact on your athletic career?
Coach Clark, Frank Tavarez, Kade Session, Allan Fransen and Brock Banta. It takes many coaches to develop a wrestler, and each of these coaches have impacted me in different ways to help me develop into the wrestler I am today.

Which teammates have you really connected with during high school?
I’ve created many connections with wrestlers from not only my school, but other schools as well.  It would be hard to name all of them.  Wrestling is such a grind, so it is nice to know that you have other wrestlers that can truly appreciate the work that is put into the sport.

Is there anyone in your family who have helped you get to where you are today?
My parents, definitely.  My mom, for putting up with my weight-cutting mood swings and my dad for talking me through the ups and downs of sports.  Also, my little sister Allie Bug for being my favorite fan.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I really enjoy skateboarding and my BMX biking.

What about this season are you looking forward to the most?

I’m looking forward to a successful season not only as an individual, but as a team as well. State titles are on the plate for both.
