The Shoshone Indians limped their way to an 0-9 finish in 2023.
But there's positive signs for the small 1A program nestled in the heart of the Magic Valley.
For starters, only one senior graduated off of last year's team. So what was an incredibly young squad a year ago should be better in 2024.
Then, there's new head coach Mike Nunnelee. Nunnelee takes over for longtime mentor Michael Perry, and has previous coaching experience at both Murtaugh and Marsing, so he understands the challenges of trying to turn around programs that are in a downturn.
Shoshone's schedule begins with a matchup against the Murtaugh JV. That's followed by a non-conference bout with North Gem. Then, the Sawtooth Conference schedule begins. With Carey, Dietrich, Camas County, Castleford and Richfield all looking strong, the road won't be easy for the Indians.
But this eager group of athletes is ready for the opportunity.
