High school football is upon us and it means a big opening weekend of games around the state - none bigger than the 9th Annual 'Rocky Mountain Rumble' at Holt Arena on August 26-27.
The annual event, started in 2008, will feature the biggest slate of games in its history as football fans can watch six contests between teams from Idaho and Utah, including the first ever matchup between Idaho teams as the Highland Rams take on the Lewiston Bengals.
For the second straight year, the title sponsor of the Rumble is the Teton Auto Group, consisting of Teton Volkswagon, Teton Honda, and Teton Hyundai based in eastern Idaho. They have been a longtime proud sponsor of Idaho high school athletics and with us here on IdahoSports.com.
Other sponsors of the event include Optix Internet, Mel's Auto Repair, Lewis Corporation, and Facial and Oral Surgery.
The Rumble kicks off with two games on Friday, as the defending 5A state champion Rocky Mountain Grizzlies host the Pleasant Grove Vikings from Utah at 5:30 pm. The nightcap will feature the Shelley Russets hosting the Snow Canyon Warriors from St. George, Utah at 8:30 pm.
Saturday will feature a four-game slate of football starting at 10:00 am as the Minico Spartans host the Stansbury Stallions from Erda, Utah just outside of Tooele. The second game of the day pits the Skyview Hawks against the Box Elder Bees from Brigham City, Utah at 1:00 pm. They will be followed by the Rigby Trojans squaring off against the Syracuse Titans from Utah at 4:00 pm. The final game of the Rumble will feature the aforementioned all-Idaho matchup between Highland and Lewiston at 7:00 pm.
Tickets will be sold at both the north and south tickets offices at Holt Arena. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for students with an activity card. All tickets include admission to all six games over both days.
The north side of Holt Arena will be open for seating for the Friday games, while both sides of the stadium will be open on Saturday. For the Saturday games, fans from Minico, Skyview, Rigby, and Highland are asked to sit on the north side of Holt Arena, while fans from Stansbury, Box Elder, Syracuse, and Lewiston are asked to sit on the south side.
Highland is the only team to have played in every 'Rumble' since its inception in 2008. The Rams are 6-2 overall in those matchups. Shelley has played in five 'Rumble' games, going 3-2. Minico has been a part of seven 'Rumble' contests, posting a 4-3 overall mark. Skyview enters their third 'Rumble', but have yet to win a game. This is the first appearance for Rocky Mountain, Rigby, and Lewiston along with all of the Utah schools previously mentioned.
If you are unable to be at Holt Arena to watch the game in person, you can watch all six games LIVE here on our IdahoSports.com GameStreams.
