The Semi-Final round is here! It could be argued that this round is more exciting than the championship games themselves (of course, that all depends on who is playing in them). Sometimes, you'll get what everyone thinks should be the championship game in the semi-final round, but that's another discussion for another time.
Looking back at last week's preview (when I touched on all games involving teams within District 4-5-6), I went 12 out of 14 on my picks. The only games I missed on were Declo/Grangeville and Rigby/Jerome. Either way, I'll take 12 out of 14 any day of the week... mainly because it's still 25 percentage points higher than the average that Paul Kingsbury gets on his Grid-Iron Game Picks (sorry, I had to Paul). I should also throw out there that I was 100% on my 1A picks, while Will Hoenike was only 50% (please don't hurt me Will).
All joking aside, this week features a LOT of great matchups: blossoming rivalries, old-time rivalries, and just good football all-around. Three of the four semi-final games in 3A/2A will be contested at Holt Arena, all on Saturday. Throw in a 1AD1 8-man game between Hagerman and Raft River for good measure and it's a full slate of football at the Dome. If you're in the area, you'll want to take the day off and enjoy high school football while it's still here.
Let's not forget about the lone 3A game not being played at Holt Arena: Homedale vs. Fruitland. The game has "instant classic" written all over it.
Of course, you can watch all the semi-final games in every classification online here at IdahoSports.com. But if you can attend in person, that's even better.
