The Wildcats lost six seniors to graduation and will have to depend on newcomers for success in 2015.

“Our senior group was exceptional last year in terms of leadership. We will miss all six of them,” said head coach Eli Bourgard.

An all-league player, Janet Lo was one of the seniors lost last season and the Wildcats will have to have some new faces step up into the leadership role.

“It’s still too early to tell if any newcomers will earn significant time, added Bourgard. “We have six new players on varsity, and all have the potential to help us if they work their tails off.”

The Wildcats went 11-10 last season.

Along with the newcomers, the Wildcats will see five players return of which include junior point guard Marley Chambers. Kellogg will also need the senior leadership of Kayla Miller, Drew Twidt, and Brooke
Bircher. Junior Abby Arthur will also make big contributions from the backcourt.

Bourgrad enters her fourth season and a lot of unanswered questions remain. The biggest one being, who will step up into the new leadership role? The starting five will see new faces. Last year’s role players will now be expected to step up and make big contributions.

A main point of emphasis for Bourgrad this season will be to finish. Last season, the Wildcats dropped their last six contests after starting the season 7-0.

In their last two games against Timberlake and Bonner’s Ferry, the Wildcats put up a total of 48 points. To put that into perspective, Kellogg scored 46 in their season opener against Mullen.

The loss of Janet Lo will hurt the Wildcats, but Bourgrad’s squad looks well equipped to compete in 3A-Intermountain League.
