Here’s a classification-by-classification breakdown of the biggest volleyball developments from the past week!

6A Classification

Skyview remains the team to beat, sitting at 5–0 in conference and 8–1 overall in the latest standings. They are gearing up for more out of state play, aiming for the best of the best as they have the Durango Classic coming up. The 2026 Durango Fall Classic is September 18–19 in Las Vegas, where schools come from all over the nation. It’s a premier girls’ high-school volleyball tournaments in the country and so we are so excited that Skyview represents Idaho!! 

Rocky Mountain had a big win when they swept previously undefeated Owyhee 3–0. This is a significant battle between rivals. 

Rocky Mountain also had a strong showing at the Utah Valley Invitational, finishing 4-2 overall with wins over Utah schools Bingham (3–1), Timpview (3–0), Wasatch (3-1) and Ridgeline (3-2), with losses to Provo (3-2) and Maple Mountain (3-1).
 
Owyhee bounced back at the Utah Valley Invite as well, beating Ridgeline (3–1), Herriman (3–1), and American Fork (3-2), despite losses to Mountain Ridge (3-1) Pleasant Grove (3-0), and Skyridge (3-1).

In the broader picture: Skyview, Rigby, Owyhee, Madison, Eagle and Rocky Mountain are emerging as leaders amongst the 6A group of schools. 


5A Classification

The 5A picture got clearer last week, with Idaho Falls and Twin Falls all making strong cases for top ranking, while Blackfoot continues to look like a serious contender. 

Idaho Falls remained the 5A benchmark. The Tigers entered the week 9–4 and won two matches last week. They are currently No. 1 in the coaches poll, with five first-place votes. They have continued to show grit and experience from their leaders.
 
Twin Falls had the standout tournament run this week.  The Bruins beat Pocatello 3–0 and Timberline 3–0 at the Wood River Invitational. The Timberline matchup was impressive, with Twin Falls taking the sets 29–27, 25–18 and 25–23.  They added a 3-0 sweep of Kuna, with a 3-0 loss to Thunder Ridge to finish 3-1 overall at the tourney.

Wood River beat Twin Falls last week in another conference thriller (3-2) while falling to Pocatello (3-2) in a tight battle at the Wood River Invitational. The Wolverines are now 7-7 overall against a rigorous schedule so far.

Blackfoot continued its strong start, sitting 10–2 overall and 2–0 in conference.  The Grizzlies defeated Pocatello in five sets before falling to Sugar-Salem in a sweep.

Bishop Kelly picked up a clean 3–0 win over Vallivue and is 1-0 in conference play.  The Knights are 4-7 overall but keep in mind: four of those losses are to 6A schools, while the the other three are to the top-ranked teams in 4A and 3A, currently (Cole Valley Christian and Ambrose).


4A Classification

Kimberly is the early 4A team to watch. IdahoSports' current 4A power rankings have the Bulldogs No. 1, with Cole Valley Christian also among the top teams. Kimberly battled with Snake River in a 5 set thriller where Kimberly came out on top. Kimberly is battling top teams from all classifications and all over the state! Fun to watch!!! 

In other noteworthy results:

Cole Valley Christian swept Emmett 
Sugar Salem swept Blackfoot

Overall, lots of great action in this classification. Kimberly, Bear Lake, Snake River, Cole Valley Christian, Sugar-Salem, and Filer are all among the top contenders in 4A volleyball. 


3A Classification

Ambrose is 14-0. Setting the tone, playing consistent, and pushing for more. If you get a chance to watch the Archers…DO IT!

Malad also had a strong week. The Dragons handled West Side in a straight-set win. Malad then swept Aberdeen, giving them back-to-back 3-0 victories. Malad's three-match winning streak ended in a close 2-1 loss to Star Valley at the Star Valley Invitational.

Here are some other matches that stood out:

Firth beat Soda Springs 3-1 and entered the week ranked No. 6 in 3A.
Declo swept Marsh Valley, then lost 3-1 to Firth; Declo was No. 24 in 3A. 
Marsing, ranked No. 12, fell 3-0 to unbeaten Ambrose. 
Vision (No. 8) swept Notus after losing to Ambrose. 

Overall, Ambrose is setting the pace and remains on top. Kellogg emerged as the clearest momentum team from last week, while Firth and Malad look like major challengers in 3A volleyball, as well.


2A Classification

There were several highlights from the past week of action in 2A volleyball:

Butte County opened the week with a 3-0 sweep of Ririe.

Grace bounced back from a 3–0 loss to Murtaugh by sweeping Oakley 3–0.

Valley picked up a notable 2-0 win over Buhl.

Sun Valley Community School swept Glenns Ferry 3–0.

Shoshone had a strong week, sweeping Rimrock 3–0 after also beating Richfield 3–1.

Butte County and Valley are emerging on top of the polls and computer rankings of 2A volleyball. These two battled last week. They split the first two sets and ended the match in a 15-12 fight to the end in the third set. With the win over Valley, Butte County is continuing to show their strength and perseverance. This match could be a little bit of déjà vu for the kind of match ups we will see in the post season. Point for point, the emotion and intensity was high. 


1A Classification

The big 1A story this past week was Council’s surge. The Lumberjacks won their sixth straight on Sept. 9, beating Horseshoe Bend 3–1, then finished the week 3-1 at the New Plymouth Invitational, with wins over New Plymouth and Weiser, and a 2–0 win over Filer.

In other 1A volleyball:

Rockland picked up a pair of road wins when they beat Hagerman 3–1 and defeated Grace Lutheran 3-0.
 
Salmon River also had an excellent week: a 3–0 win over Cascade, then wins over Garden Valley, Highland and Nezperce, including a 2–0 tournament win over Nezperce to win the Timberline Spartan Showdown.

Mackay also defeated Salmon 3-1. 

Another week finished and another great week of Idaho high school volleyball ahead! Be sure to keep an eye on tournament play this weekend!!
