This season has brought a little bit of everything so far for Idaho high school track and field.

All-time records broken, athletes appearing in the top 25 in the U.S. with their respective marks/times, competitive districts.

State team titles and individual titles will be decided Friday and Saturday at the 6A/5A meet at Mountain View High and the 4A/3A/2A meet at Middleton High, and numerous athletes could find their way into the state meet record books, too.

Here is a look back at last week’s district championships and storylines to follow for the state championships.

CLASS 6A

Defending 6A boys and girls state champion Mountain View has been in solid form this spring, most recently sweeping 6A District 3 team titles last week at Meridian High. The boys won the district title 121-106 over Rocky Mountain while the girls won 136.5-127 over Capital.

Senior and Utah Valley commit Quincy Keller, who won four golds at last season’s state meet for the Mavericks, won district titles in the girls 100 (11.81), 200 (24.24) and as part of the 4x100 with Talia Johnson, Peyton Anderson and Brinley Lathrop (47.97) and the 4x200 with Bree Cardon, Tenley Johnson and Lathrop (1:41.62) Additionally, Mountain View junior Lilly Stebbins, who won two state high jump titles at Challis, won the girls high jump district title upon clearing 5-4. She is one of four girls in Idaho to clear 5-6 this season and joins Timberline junior Eva Pinney as the only two 6A girls to clear 5-6.

The Mavericks’ team of Stebbins, Johnson, Cardon and Kara Beck also won the girls 4x400 and senior Kami Clayton, the defending 6A girls shot put state champion, won the shot put district title with a personal best 43-11, the top girls 6A mark in Idaho this season. Beck, a freshman, won 300 hurdles with a personal best time of 44.20, which leads Idaho 6A girls thus far this season.

The Mountain View boys claimed individual district titles thanks to junior Beau Stewart, who won long jump with a personal best mark of 22-9.75, and senior Koda Van Dahlen in the 1,600 (4:19.31). Stewart’s personal best leads 6A boys this season in Idaho.

Boise senior and defending 6A boys 200 state champion Eli Rich won the boys 100 district title in 10.94 while teammate, sophomore Quinton Williams, won the 200 (21.49) and 400 (personal best 47.59). Williams’ 400 personal best puts him in a tie for No. 4 all-time on record in Idaho. He and Kuna’s Izaki Abongela who placed second in a personal best in 47.77, are the lone 6A boys in Idaho this season to break 48 seconds.

Also of note for Boise, Colton Bureau, Valon Winn, Williams and Cache Haines ran a school record and No. 5 all-time Idaho record 3:19.17 to win the 4x400 district title.

The 6A girls 800, 1,600 and 3,200 state finals will showcase two top 10 milers in the U.S. in Rocky Mountain senior and BYU commit Hallie Heemeyer and Boise senior and Gonzaga commit Audrey Orme. Heemeyer ran a personal best 2:11.69 to win the 800 district title and 5:03.93 to win the 1,600 district title while Orme won the 3,200 district title in 10:46.79. As of Monday on athletic.net, Heemeyer is No. 5 (4:38.76) and Orme is No. 10 (4:40.81) in the U.S. for the girls 1,600 and Heemeyer is No. 6 (4:40.42) and Orme is No. 8 (4:42.58) in the U.S. for the girls 1-mile with their performances from the elite girls mile April 24 at Nike Jesuit Twilight Relays in Portland. Those sub-4:42 1,600 times both broke 2020 Mountain View graduate and current professional Nike runner Lexy Halladay-Lowry’s Idaho all-time record of 4:43.74. Halladay-Lowry ran that time upon winning the 3,200 at the 2019 5A state meet, and that record still stands as a state meet record for 6A (formerly 5A).

Eagle senior and defending 6A boys high jump state champion Ambrose Brainard, who cleared 6-8 to win the boys high jump district title, is No. 17 in the U.S. as of Monday on athletic.net for clearing 7-0 last month at Boise Relays. He is one of four Idaho boys on record to clear 7-0 in high jump. His teammate, junior Trev Larson, became boys 300 hurdles district champion in a personal best and No. 8 Idaho all-time 37.66. That personal best puts him at No. 1 in Idaho this season for all classifications.

Capital junior Elliot Schrack won the boys javelin district title with a distance of 169-8. He has won javelin at all but one meet thus far this season and has the top mark in 6A (176-4).

Rocky Mountain junior and defending 6A girls pole vault state champion Lauren Rynhart cleared 11-6 to win the district title.

Timberline junior and defending 6A girls triple jump state champion Nadja Burkholder leaped to a personal best 39-5.25 to win the triple jump district title and move to a tie for No. 4 all-time on record in Idaho.

Capital senior and defending 6A girls long jump state champion Eden Francis became javelin district champion (123-5) and tied with Boise’s Paisley Cole for first place in girls 100 hurdles finals with an identical time of 14.89, a personal best for Francis. Francis owns the top mark in Idaho this season for girls javelin (130-6) and leads Idaho’s 6A girls with long jump (18-6).

Up north at the 6A District 1-2 championships, Coeur d’Alene swept the boys and girls team titles on its home track, winning the boys title 111.33-53.33 over Post Falls and the girls title 97-54 over Post Falls.

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Rowan Henry, who as of Monday is No. 12 in the U.S. on athletic.net for the boys 2-mile (9:04.37), was part of the Vikings’ district champion boys 4x800 with Mitchell Rietze, Wyatt Morgenstern and Wyatt Carr (8:21.67). Additionally, Carr won the 1,600 (4:17.01) and led a Coeur d’Alene 1-2-3-4-5 finish by winning the 3,200 in 9:26.53. Carr’s personal best 8:57.51 in the 3,200 from last month’s Arcadia Invitational is No. 5 all-time on record in Idaho, and he and Rocky Mountain senior Hyrum Tuft (8:58.60) are the lone Idaho boys to break nine minutes in the 3,200 thus far this season.

At the 6A District 4-5-6 championships in Blackfoot, Rigby completed its third district team title sweep in eight years, winning the girls title 136-105 over Thunder Ridge and the boys title 155-95 over Highland.

Rigby senior Owen Golding won the boys 100 district title in a personal best 10.63, which puts him at No. 1 in Idaho thus far this season for any classification and keeps him undefeated in the event this spring. Teammate and fellow senior Brayden Maughan, the defending 6A boys discus state champion, won district titles in both shot put (54-7) and discus (177-10). He leads 6A in Idaho this season with his season best discus mark of 179-8.

Arguably the biggest story to come from Rigby’s district team title sweep was junior Kade Scott clearing 16 feet, 4.75 inches to win pole vault and join the elite five meter club. Leading up to clearing five meters, he cleared 15-8 and then 16-0.

He joins older sister, 2024 Rigby graduate Abbie Scott, as Rigby school record holder in pole vault and is now No. 1 all-time in eastern Idaho and No. 4 all-time on record in Idaho. Celebrating the record win with him was his dad and coach, Jared Scott.

“It’s awesome,” Kade Scott said. “It means everything to have a great coach. It’s even better to have them be your dad. At night, we sit up and dissect my jumps. It’s awesome being able to share this with my dad. My next goal is 16-8.”

Rigby senior Brinley Bybee contributed two gold medals to the girls team title win as she was victorious in long jump (17-11.5) and triple jump (39-3.75), the latter of which was a huge personal best, made her the new school record holder and put her at No. 6 all-time on record in Idaho.

“I’m really excited coming in with these marks (for state),” Bybee said.

Madison senior Brielle Nite, whose personal best 139-7 leads 6A in Idaho this season, won the girls discus district title with 139-6.

Thunder Ridge sophomore Ashlynn Richardson, who is undefeated in the 400 this spring, ran a personal best 56.19 to become district champion in the girls 400 and contributed to the Titans’ win in the 4x100 in a school record 48.52 with Macey Stokes, Lacey Price and Abigail Sondag.

They wore identical Nike spikes for districts that they bedazzled themselves with sequins, something Richardson said they also plan to do for state.

“I want to get into the 55s,” Richardson said. “There will be some great competition from Boise.”

Richardson’s 56.19 leads 6A girls in Idaho this season and is No. 2 in the state for the 400 regardless of classification. She and Timberline sophomore Sydney Walters, who ran a personal best 56.91 in the District 3 prelims, are the lone 6A girls in Idaho this season to break 57 seconds.

Highland senior, Texas Tech commit and two-time state champion in both boys hurdles, Spencer Van Orden, was approved via hardship to compete at state in both boys 110 and 300 hurdles and 2024 four-time state champion, Capital senior and Indiana commit Christine Huckins, was approved via hardship to compete at state in the girls 100 and 200. Van Orden’s 13.44 in 110 hurdles leads Idaho in the event this season and is the No. 9 in the U.S. as of Monday on athletic.net. Huckins leads Idaho this season in the girls 100 (11.69) and 200 (24.23).

Expect District 3 teams to decide the trophies for both 6A boys and girls.

CLASS 5A

Defending 5A girls state champion Moscow is coming off an almost 12 point 5A District 1-2 championship win over Lakeland last week.

Continuing her impressive high school career and scoring 40 points for the Bears was junior Mattea Nuhn, two-time defending state champion in 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump who won district titles in those events as well as in long jump. Save for Nike Outdoor Nationals, Nuhn has gone undefeated in 100 hurdles as a high school athlete. Additionally, her personal best 14.10 in 100 hurdles this season is No. 1 all-time on record in Idaho, her personal best 19-0.5 to win district long jump puts her at No. 7 all-time on record in Idaho and she is one of four girls in Idaho for any classification this season to clear 5-6 in high jump. Her personal best 44.02 from winning 300 hurdles at districts is the lone sub-45 second time in 5A this season. She is undefeated this season in all four events she has qualified in for state and leads 5A in all four of those events.

Also returning to state and winning individual district titles for the Bears were junior Jasmine Carr in the 100 (12.03) and 200 (24.84) and senior Cora Crawford in the 1,600 (5:17.02) and 3,200 (12:14.45). Carr anchored Moscow’s district champion 4x400 teammates Addie Lassen, Izzabel Fender and Ashlyn Fakhouri to the win in 4:01.52. Carr leads 5A currently in the 100 and 200 with her personal best times from districts.

Lakeland junior and defending 5A girls 100 and 200 state champion Sapphire Ruelle is returning to state in both those events and also contributed to a 5A District 1-2 championship in the 4x100 (48.02) with Ashlyn Karle, Casey Foster and Karstyn Kiefer. Her teammate, junior Jackie Robbins, won district titles in girls shot put (40-8) and discus (128-4) and she leads 5A currently with her shot put personal best of 42-8.

Additionally at the 5A District 1-2 championships, Sandpoint senior and defending 5A boys 200 state champion Maverick Gomez won the boys 100 district title in a personal best 10.69. Moscow senior Caleb Heywood, who won the 200 district title in 21.56, ran a personal best 21.43 last month that put him in a tie for No. 5 all-time on record in Idaho and No. 1 this season in Idaho for any classification. His 10.65 personal best in the 100 leads 5A this season. Gomez’s teammate, junior Elizabeth Storms, won the girls 800 in a personal best 2:18.13, which leads 5A this season.

Five time-defending boys state champion Bishop Kelly won the 5A District 3 title over Columbia, 198.5-131. Winning individual district titles for the Knights were senior Dylan Gale in the 100 (10.95), senior Dominic Wolthuis in triple jump (40-10.5), junior Cole Gorski in javelin (150-4) and junior Jack Haney in the 800 (2:00.38).

Returning to state and winning the boys pole vault 5A District 3 title upon clearing 14-0 is defending 5A state champion Ammon Hammer, a Columbia sophomore. Hammer has cleared 15-6 twice this season. His teammate, sophomore JR Whitworth, cleared a personal best 6-5 to become high jump district champion. That height puts him at No. 1 in 5A this season.

Also at the 5A District 3 championships, Vallivue junior Jakobe Davis won the 200 in a personal best 21.65 and the 400 in 47.83. Davis’s personal best 47.03 in the 400 this season is No. 1 all-time on record in Idaho.

Returning to the 5A state meet upon winning the 5A District 3 girls 400 district title is Skyview junior Isla Anderson, the defending 5A girls 400 state champion and current 5A leader in the 400 (season best 57.63).

Emmett senior and defending 5A girls discus state champion Ryllie Smith won the 5A District 3 title in shot put with 36-1.

The past two 5A girls pole vault state champions, Emmett junior Addi Richards (2024) and Skyview senior Skotlynd Cagle (2025), both qualified for state as Richards placed first and Cagle second at the 5A District 3 meet.

At the 5A District 6 meet last week in Blackfoot, defending 5A girls 3,200 state champion and Weber State commit Jaycee Jensen won the 800 (2:24.74), 1,600 (5:22.31) and 3,200 (11:50.66) titles to contribute 30 points to the girls district champion Tigers.

Jensen was not 100 percent physically well at districts, but ultimately competed in four events.

“This season has been really hard,” Jensen said. “I’m sick right now. I’ve got a pinched nerve in my back. It’s been a hard season building back my confidence. I have so many supportive friends and family. It means so much.”

Contributing to Blackfoot’s first boys district championship in five years was sophomore Owen Gregory, who won the 800 district title in 1:55.97 and was part of the district champion sprint medley relay win (3:39.30) with Efren Bermudez, Marcus Searle and Royce Lyon.

Gregory, who will also compete at Nike Outdoor Nationals in June, said he is next going for sub-1:50 ‘or die trying.’

“I want to say I have anticipated where I’d be at (this season), ever since winning state my freshman year and I ran 1:55,” Gregory said. “I’ve been setting goals and the (running) community is nice.”

The defending 5A boys 800 state champion, Gregory ran a personal best 1:51.50 last month to win at the Tiger-Grizz Invitational. That time is No. 5 all-time on record in Idaho and No. 1 all-time on record in eastern Idaho.

Gregory credits incorporating more 400s into his training regimen this spring for his 800 progress.

Gregory’s teammate, senior Boedy Callister, won 5A District 6 titles in high jump (6-2), long jump (22-2.75) and triple jump (45-3). All three of those marks are personal bests, and the triple jump mark puts him at No. 1 in 5A currently.

Defending 5A girls triple jump state champion, Blackfoot senior Lauren Christiansen, won 5A District 6 titles in 100 hurdles (personal best 14.94), triple jump (36-6) and was part of the winning 4x200 (1:45.06) with Sailor Tomazin, Paige Eldredge and Carly Christiansen. She leads 5A currently with her triple jump personal best of 36-8.5.

Christiansen’s teammate, senior Eva Grimm, won the 5A District 6 girls discus title with a massive personal best 150-1, which leads both 5A and all classifications in Idaho. That mark puts her at No. 5 all-time on record in Idaho and makes her one of five Idaho girls on record to reach 150 feet with discus.

Defending 5A boys 100 state champion, Skyline senior and Idaho State football commit Zyan Crockett, won 5A District 3 titles in the 100 (personal best 10.80), 200 (22.69) and was part of the winning 4x400 (3:26.97) with Ben Thomas, Nick Smith and Desmond Swaner. Thomas won district titles in 110 hurdles (personal best 14.77) and 300 hurdles (40.41) and currently leads 5A with his 110 hurdles personal best. Their teammate, freshman Stevie Reed, qualified for her first state meet upon winning girls 300 hurdles (46.30), the 400 (personal best 58.24) and placing second in 100 hurdles (15.02). She said she is hoping for personal bests at state—14s in the 100 hurdles, 57 seconds in the 400 and 44s in the 300 hurdles—adding that she is excited to race Nuhn.

Hillcrest senior Alexa Weatherly, who leads 5A with her personal best javelin mark of 128-2 and was unable to compete at the 5A District 6 meet, received hardship approval to compete at state.

At the 5A District 5 championships, Century junior Ethan Hansen won district titles in the boys 800 (1:57.80) and 1,600 (4:25.20) while his teammate and fellow junior Ammon Bitton won the 3,200 (9:41.86). Hansen is No. 2 in the 800 (personal best 1:55.51), No. 1 in the 1,600 (personal best 4:19.31) and No. 1 in the 3,200 (personal best 9:00.85) in 5A this season. His teammate, senior Keaton Monsen, won the 5A District 5 championship in boys long jump (personal best 22-9), a mark that leads 5A currently.

At the 5A District 4 championships, Twin Falls won the boys title 240-136 over Wood River and the girls title 236-191.5 over Jerome. Twin Falls junior Raelee Richardson won the district titles in the girls 800 (2:24.13), 1,600 (5:18.03), 3,200 (11:35.91) and contributed to the Bruins’ 4x400 win in 4;15.29 with Aisley Martin, Evangeline Dick and Jane Frampton. Her 1,600 personal best of 5:01.01 and 3,200 season best of 11:01.78 currently lead 5A. Her teammate, senior Eli Thompson, won the boys 300 hurdles district title in a personal best 39.38, which leads 5A, and won the 100 (personal best 10.78) and 400 (50.43).

Wood River senior and defending 5A boys 400 state champion Jackson Wallace won the 5A District 4 boys 200 in a personal best 21.98. His teammate and fellow senior Alex Ratliff won the shot put district title with 52-10.5. His personal bests of 57-3 in shot put and 164-2 in discus currently lead 5A.

Moscow is heavily favored to repeat as champions on the girls side. The consensus among eastern Idaho coaches at least is that the 5A boys trophy race will be more open than it has been in recent seasons.

CLASS 4A

Sugar-Salem head coach Brett Hill’s preseason prediction was that Kimberly would be a strong contender for both the boys and girls in 4A. The Bulldogs have indeed been living up to that prediction and then some.

Kimberly swept 4A District 4 team titles, winning the girls team title 138.5-91.5 over Filer and the boys team title 129-68 over Filer. Junior and defending 4A girls state champion in the 100 and 200, Karlie Bair, won district titles in the 100 (11.87), 200 (24.87), 100 hurdles (14.13) and high jump (5-2). She is undefeated in the 100 this season, and her personal best 11.78 is No. 2 all-time on record in Idaho. Additionally, her 200 personal best of 24.50 is No. 3 all-time on record in Idaho.

Bair’s teammate, senior Brie Black, won the 4A District 4 girls javelin title (personal best 118-1), and leads 4A with that mark. Kimberly also won all four girls relay district titles.

Kimberly sophomore Joshua Sonderegger won 4A District 4 boys shot put (58-8.5) and discus (181-1) and currently leads all classifications in Idaho in both those events. The Bulldogs also won all four boys relays district titles.

Also at the 4A District 4 meet, Filer senior Cache Palmer won boys javelin with a personal best 161-7, which leads 4A this season. Gooding junior Cougar Stockham cleared 6-6 to win the boys high jump district title and won triple jump with a personal best mark of 45-5.5 Those personal bests lead 4A this season, his triple jump personal best is No. 2 for all classifications and his high jump personal best is tied for No. 2 for all classifications.

Hill said Coeur d’Alene Charter will arguably be Kimberly’s biggest competition on the girls side with Sugar-Salem not far behind. Coeur d’Alene Charter senior and Oregon commit Annabelle Carr won 4A District 1 titles in the 400 (59.50), 1,600 (5:19.98) and contributed to the district title win in the 4x400 in 4:02.55 with Brielle Meine, Reagan Meine and Helen Oyler. She took second to Oyler in the 800 finals at the line, 2:27.15 to 2:27.16. Carr’s personal best 2:08.67 in the 800 is No. 1 all-time on record in Idaho, her 400 personal best of 55.92 is No. 5 all-time on record in Idaho and her 1,600 personal best of 4:52.77 is No. 10 all-time on record in Idaho, and all three lead 4A this season considerably. Her 800 and 400 personal bests also lead all classifications in Idaho this season.

Bonners Ferry won the 4A District 1 boys title 91-83 over Timberlake while Timberlake won the girls title 89.5-56.5 over Bonners Ferry.

Timberlake junior Jonathan Barnhart, the defending 4A boys 800 state champion, won 4A District 1 titles in the 400 (52.19), the 800 (2:03.20), anchored his 4x400 teammates Cameron Barnhart, Joshua Yeager and Caleb Royce to the win in 3:36.10 with and anchored his sprint medley relay teammates Waylin MacArthur, Weston Herbert and Yeager to the win in 3:42.44.

In addition to Bair and Carr, the 4A classification also features some of the fastest times and top marks in all of Idaho on the girls side. Marsh Valley senior and BYU commit Lydia Townsend is No. 3 in the U.S. in girls pole vault on athletic.net as of Tuesday with her personal best 13-8, an event she is two-time defending state champion in and currently undefeated in this spring. She also joins Bair, Coeur d’Alene Charter senior Reagan Meine (14.59) and Kimberly’s Hannah Fisher (14.85) as sub-15 second 100 hurdlers in 4A and Meine (43.11), Fisher (44.09) and Snake River’s junior Paetyn Polatis (44.46) as sub-45 second 300 hurdlers in 4A.

Townsend won 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the 4A District 5 championships in 14.12 (personal best) and 45.84, respectively, and was part of Marsh Valley’s 4x400 win in 4:05.03 with Isabelle Bastian, Adeley Marshall and Hayzee Day. Townsend and Bair are No. 2 and No. 4 all-time on record in Idaho, respectively, in girls 100 hurdles with their sub-14.2 personal bests and Townsend is No. 2 all-time on record in Idaho in girls pole vault. Meine not only leads 4A with her 300 hurdles personal best 43.11, but all classifications in Idaho this season, and that time puts her at No. 3 all-time on record in Idaho. Meine won 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the 4A District 1 championships in 14.96 and 44.11, respectively.

Townsend’s teammate and fellow senior Jaxson Smith, won 4A District 5 boys long jump with a personal best 23-5.25, which leads Idaho for all classifications this season.

In 4A girls throws, Bonners Ferry senior Hallie Hartman’s shot put personal best 44-1 leads all classifications in Idaho this season and she is undefeated in the event this spring. South Fremont junior Brooklyn Bair, who won 4A District 6 girls shot put (29-7) and discus (114-6.5), leads 4A this season with her discus personal best of 128-4.

Sugar-Salem, which won the 4A boys state championship and girls third place trophy last season, swept 4A District 6 team titles, winning the boys title 106-43 over South Fremont and the girls title 119-38 over South Fremont. Defending 4A boys high jump state champion, Sugar-Salem senior Jack Larson, returned to state upon taking second place to district champion Teton senior Bradley Brown on attempts. Both cleared 6-6. Defending 4A girls long jump state champion, sophomore Sorelle Clark, won the district title in the 100 (12.47) and as part of the sprint medley relay in 1:51.52 with Lewa Rareba, Andee Petterson and Raegan Harris and the 4x200 in 1:49.71 with Tasha Larsen, Sarah Galbraith and Harris. She took second to Petterson in long jump, 17-7.5 to 17-7. Clark’s season best 18-5 leads 4A girls long jump this season.

Defending 4A girls high jump state champion, Sugar-Salem senior Tasha Larsen, cleared a personal best 5-6 to win at the 4A District 6 meet, take the lead in 4A this season and join three other Idaho girls as having cleared 5-6 this spring.

Sugar-Salem also won all four boys relays and three of the four girls relays at districts.

Defending 4A boys 110 hurdles state champion, Teton junior Canon Kunz, returns to state having won the 4A District 6 110 hurdles title in a personal best 14.98 and the 300 hurdles district title in a personal best 39.61.

At the 4A District 3 championships, McCall-Donnelly swept team titles, winning the boys title 163-107 over Homedale and the girls title 195-131 over Weiser. Defending 4A boys long jump state champion, Fruitland senior Ezekiel Van Hofwegen, won district titles in long jump (22-5) and triple jump (42-5). His long jump personal best of 23-0 is No. 2 in Idaho this season for all classifications and No. 2 in 4A.

Two-time defending 4A girls triple jump state champion, Payette senior Olyvia Denison, won district titles in long jump (17-3.75) and triple jump (30-4.5). Her season bests of 18-0.5 and 37-0 are No. 3 and No. 1 in 4A, respectively, this season.

McCall-Donnelly junior Charlie Speirs won 4A District 3 titles in the boys 800 (1:56.82), 1,600 (4:36.14) and 3,200 (9:39.72). He leads 4A in the 3,200 with his personal best 9:31.08.
