For years, finding results from Idaho's high school golf competitions was a tricky endeavor.
Local media relied upon coaches sending in scores and winners, but with the number of dedicated media outlets in Idaho shrinking, coverage has become sparse.
Even if a coach wanted to send in the final results, he or she needed to quickly snap a picture of the scorecards taped to the wall before they were torn down and thrown away, which didn't always necessarily happen.
Snake River head coach Jeb Harrison wanted that to change.
"So we created a site that has a high school golf ranking system," said Harrison.
Snake River assistant coach Dewight Lee did most of the leg work ("I only helped a little," said Harrison), and earlier this spring, their site officially launched.
The website is www.prep-golf.com. It allows users to search by classification, individual school, grade level and gender. Users can also search through individual tournaments.
While there are still a few kinks to be ironed out, the site has been running smoothly thus far and features data from the current spring season (for 4A and 3A teams).
"We want to see what scores are around the state, help create rankings and coverage for our golfers, and just promote the sport a little bit," said Harrison.
