The 2026 Idaho Girls Wrestling State Championships once again showcased the remarkable growth, depth, and competitiveness of girls wrestling across the state. While many of the athletes identified in pre-tournament previews lived up to expectations, the tournament also highlighted how rapidly the sport continues to evolve, with young athletes emerging as champions and programs from every region placing athletes on the podium.
Across the fourteen weight classes, champions represented twelve different schools, reflecting the expanding competitive balance within Idaho girls wrestling. Programs like Thunder Ridge, Buhl, Tri-Valley, Weiser, and American Falls continued to develop elite competitors, while athletes from smaller communities such as Clark Fork, Oakley, Deary, and Clearwater Valley proved that a strong wrestling culture can thrive anywhere.
Championship Highlights
Several champions delivered dominant performances throughout the tournament.
At 115 pounds, Kinzie Williams of American Falls capped a flawless season, finishing 38-0 after defeating Rocky Mountain’s Talea Nichols 5-0 in the finals. Likewise, Charlee Noah of Tri-Valley (43-0) and Roxy Sheen of Buhl (55-0) completed undefeated seasons, solidifying their place among Idaho’s most dominant wrestlers this year.
Thunder Ridge made a strong statement as well. Gracie Price (120 lbs) secured a first-period fall in the finals, while Shauna Anderson (190 lbs) powered through her bracket with a quick championship fall over Coeur d’Alene’s Brooklyn Anderson.
Two of the most exciting matches of the tournament came at 135 pounds, where Keanna Conrad of Blackfoot defeated Post Falls’ Kahli Brown in a sudden victory overtime, winning 5-2, and 235 pounds, where Kassie Voss of Post Falls (#5 seed) defeated Natalya Hoobery of Weiser in overtime.
Youth Movement Continues
A major storyline confirmed during the tournament was the dominance of non seniors. Sophomores and juniors captured the majority of the titles, confirming what many predicted: Idaho girls wrestling is still very young and continuing to build toward even deeper competition in the coming years.
Champions such as Caldwell’s Maritza Medina (So.), Idaho Falls’ Mya Bolander (So.), Tri-Valley’s Charlee Noah (So.), and Thunder Ridge’s Gracie Price (Jr.) represent a strong returning core that will shape future state tournaments.
Geographic Parity
Another theme that mirrored the pre-tournament outlook was the wide geographic distribution of talent. Wrestlers from northern Idaho, the Treasure Valley, eastern Idaho, and smaller rural communities all reached the podium.
Highlights included:
Shelby Garten of Timberlake won the 130-lb championship, representing North Idaho at the top of the podium.
Olivia Bezdicek of Jerome recorded one of the fastest finals of the tournament with a 33-second fall at 140 pounds.
Sarah Toribau of Oakley defeated Skyline’s Molly Olague in a strong 9-4 decision at 170 pounds.
North Idaho Representation
North Idaho programs continued to grow their presence on the state podium.
For Sandpoint, the Bulldogs celebrated three placers:
Vanessa Hood – 3rd place (135 lbs)
Lilli Marti – 3rd place (235 lbs)
Teagan Newsom – 4th place (145 lbs)
For Post Falls, the Trojans celebrated two placers:
Kassie Voss - 1st (235lbs)
Kahli Brown - 2nd (135lbs)
For Coeur d’ Alene, the Vikings celebrated two placers:
Murphee Balich - 5th (100lbs)
Brooklyn Anderson - 2nd (190lbs)
Nearby Clark Fork also had a historic finish, as Summer Birch battled through the consolation bracket to earn 5th place at 120 pounds, marking a significant milestone for the small program. And Lakeland also was represented by 4th place finisher Hunter Edmondson (115 lbs).
Differences from the State Preview
While many projected contenders performed as expected, several trends emerged during the tournament:
Fewer major upsets
Many top seeds ultimately reached the finals, showing the accuracy of pre-tournament rankings.
High number of falls
A large percentage of medal matches ended by pin, reflecting the aggressive and technical evolution of girls wrestling in Idaho.
Depth in the middle weights
Weight classes 125, 130, and 145 proved particularly competitive, with several highly ranked athletes colliding earlier in the bracket than expected
In Summary
The 2026 championship further confirmed that Idaho girls wrestling has firmly established itself as one of the fastest-growing sports in the state. With a deep class of young champions returning and competitive programs developing across every region, the future of the sport looks brighter than ever.
