May is here, and district championships draw nigh.

Before getting too ahead of ourselves, however, let's revisit some historic accomplishments that occurred over the weekend to end the regular season schedule.

Moving On Up To Begin May

Prior to this season, only one Idaho athlete on record had broken 14 seconds for the boys 110-meter hurdles.

As of May 2, there are now four Idaho boys on this list.

Nampa senior Tegon Lords ran a personal best 13.81 to win boys 110 hurdles on May 1 at Canyon County Championships in Ridgevue, lowering his previous personal best 13.95 from April 25 at the Nike Jesuit Twilight Relays, and Emmett senior Kenyon Carter ran a personal best 13.98 to win boys varsity 110 hurdles on May 2 at the BYU Invitational in Provo to join Highland junior Spencer Van Orden (personal best 13.59 on April 12 to win at the Arcadia Invitational) and Emmett's Landon Helms (13.67 from 2022) in the sub-14 club. Lords is undefeated in both 110 and 300 hurdles this season while Carter's only 110 hurdles loss was at the Chandler Relays on March 22 in Arizona. Lords' 110 hurdles personal best is No. 3 all-time on record in Idaho and Carter's personal best is No. 4 all-time on record.

Carter also ran a personal best 37.50 to place second in boys varsity 300 hurdles at the BYU Invitational, which is No. 4 all-time on record in Idaho in the event.

He was not the only Idahoan to place at BYU. Burley senior Alex Rushton and Sugar-Salem junior Jack Larson tied for third in boys varsity high jump upon both clearing 6-5. Larson's teammate Sorelle Clark, a freshman, leaped an impressive 18-3.25 to place fourth in girls varsity long jump, a personal best mark that is No. 2 all-time on record for a District 6 girl. Emmett sophomore Addi Richards cleared 12-0 to win girls varsity pole vault and her teammate, junior Ryllie Smith, placed fifth in girls varsity discus with 129-0. Blackfoot junior Eva Grimm placed sixth in girls varsity discus with a personal best mark of 129-5. Preston senior Ellie Nelson placed sixth in girls varsity shot put with a personal best 41-4.5, her first time reaching 41 feet. Rigby senior Garrett Merwin cleared a personal best 15-3 to place third in boys varsity pole vault. The Preston boys placed sixth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:42.63.

Elsewhere, Idaho athletes threw down statement marks to begin the month of May.

The Boise quartet of Eli Rich, Kellen Hulquist, Quinton Williams and Chase Lawyer won the 4x200 on May 1 at the Boise City Meet in 1:26.01, the No. 1 fastest all-time on record in Idaho for the event.

Van Orden, already Idaho's all-time fastest on record in both boys hurdles events and the fastest in Idaho this season in both hurdles, ran personal bests of 21.53 and 47.73 to win the 200 and 400, respectively, on May 2 at the Pocatello City Meet. Those are the fastest times in Idaho in those events this season. He last ran the 400 as a sophomore during indoor track and his last 200 was his freshman outdoor season. Additionally, his 47.73 is No. 4 all-time on record in Idaho for the 400.

Rocky Mountain senior Emme Hamm ran a personal best 2:12.03 to win the girls 800 on May 1 at the Gary Gorrell Twilight Classic. That time puts her at No. 4 all-time on record in Idaho.

Hillcrest senior Leah Pebley joined Coeur d'Alene senior Kimberlee Priebe as the only Idaho girls this season to clear 5-7 in high jump, winning with that height on May 2 at the Idaho Falls City/County meet.

Mountain View junior Quincy Keller ran 11.86 to win the girls 100 on May 1 at the Gary Gorrell Twilight Classic, her third sub-12 second time of the season and the second fastest time of her career.

Valley senior Lexi Huettig will go into this week's district championships with the best girls long jump mark this season in Idaho upon leaping a personal best 18-6 to win on May 1 at the Snake River Conference Meet.

Lewiston senior Cole Arlint won boys javelin on May 1 at the District 2 Meet of Champions with a personal best mark of 172-4 to extend his Idaho season best in the event.
