Ridge Lovett Wins NCAA Division I Championship
Idaho had a strong number of Collegiate All-Americans in 2025

The state of Idaho has produced a long list of collegiate level All-Americans dating back to 1962 when Rex Christensen and Lyn Jardin, each from Teton High School, earned All-American honors for Ricks College at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championships. Since, the Gem State has had many more prep wrestlers earn All-American honors in the various collegiate divisions. These divisions include the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), NJCAA, as well as the three divisions of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA DI, DII, and DIII). This past month, Idaho represented well at the NCAA Division I Championships as Post Falls’ graduate Ridge Lovett won his respective weight group (149s) by the slimmest of margins, which was a nail biter throughout. Joining Lovett was seven more Idahoans earning a combined eight All-American in the NAIA and NJCAA.

Unquestionably, Lovett is the most decorated prep wrestler to have every competed in the Gem State of Idaho. Graduating from Post Falls High School in 2019, Lovett earned four 5A State titles, compiled an incredible 160-0 record, as well as a state record ten All-American honors at Fargo, which includes an individual title in Junior Greco. This past weekend, Lovett made history by becoming the third Idaho wrestler to earn an individual NCAA Division I title (149s) for the University of Nebraska (Lincoln). To put it into perspective, winning an individual NCAA Division I crown is by far one of the most difficult achievements in the sport of wrestling. As a result, Lovett joins fellow Idahoans Jake Rosholt (Oklahoma State, 2003-’06) and Jared Lawrence (Minnesota, 2002) in this honored club. On top of that, Lovett is the third Idahoan to earn a third NCAA Division I All-American honor.

Historically, Idaho wrestlers have performed very well at the NAIA Championships. Historically, thirty-five wrestlers have earned one or more All-American honors in this division. At the 2025 Championships in Wichita, Kansas, a total six wrestlers brought home All-Americans honors in the men’s division with two in this group earning their second. Leading this talented group is 2x All-Americans Sawyer Hobbs (Providence University) and Kenneth Copley of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. A graduate of South Fremont High School, Hobbs was a 4x State Champion while Copley won two titles for Sugar-Salem High School.

Joining Sawyer Hobbs on the All-American medal stand is his younger brother, Hunter, who also won 4x State Champion for South Fremont. Other All-Americans include Gentry Smith (Southeastern Univ./Post Falls HS), 3x State Champion Nico Rodriguez (Eastern Oregon/Columbia H.S.), and Isaiah Twait of Corban University, an individual State Champion/4x placer, as well as Fargo All-American for Meridian High School.

In the women’s collegiate division, the lone All-American was Liv Wieber of Eastern Oregon University in the NAIA. A prep standout for Eagle High School, Wieber is the first Idahoan to earn a third All-American honor in this division. Congratulations on this achievement!

In closing, I want to congratulate the eight Idaho wrestlers that earned All-American honors as well as those that participated and represented the great state of Idaho. To put it into perspective, just over 1% of high school level wrestlers advance to each of the respective collegiate divisions. To compete together with earning a prestigious All-American honor is at another level. Job well done!

Below is the list of 2025 All-Americans in their respective divisions. Additionally, I list all past All-Americans dating back to 1962. If I have missed anyone, please bring this to the attention of Idaho Sports. Job well done!
