Welcome to "Heavy Hitters", where each week, we'll highlight the top hitting performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.
We will select one hitting performance for each day of the week. Think of it as the best hitting line for that particular day.
Because the season began on a Wednesday, this weekly rundown will cover the previous week's Wednesday through Tuesday action.

Without further ado, let's get to it!
BASEBALL
Griffin Ross, Blackfoot (Wednesday, March 12)
In a wild, back-and-forth affair with Thunder Ridge, Blackfoot survived their season opener, 9-8, thanks in part to Ross. Ross went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBIs, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored.
Preston Flournoy, Mountain View (Thursday, March 13)
The Mavericks picked up a 12-6 win over Bishop Kelly, and Flournoy was a big reason why. Flournoy went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored. Flournoy also reached base when he was hit by a pitch, and swiped three bags as well.
Payton Williams, Vision Charter (Friday, March 14)
The Golden Eagles defeated former conference rival Idaho City 16-4. Although Williams' 1-for-2 line might look pedestrian, consider this: Williams' lone base hit was a double, but the speedster also reached base twice via walk and once via hit-by-pitch. So Williams reached base four times in total, and scored all four times he was on base. In case you need more convicing, Williams also stole eight bases in the win.
Easton Vivier, Mountain Home (Saturday, March 15)
Mountain Home outslugged Kimberly 21-17, and Vivier hit for the cycle in the victory. Vivier went 4-for-4 with a single, double, triple and home run. He reached base a fifth time when he was hit by a pitch, and he also added five RBIs, four runs scored, and a stolen base.
Andrew Hurley, Moscow (Monday, March 17)
In a battle of state title winners from a season ago, Moscow turned back Orofino 16-3. Hurley went 2-for-4 with a double, five RBIs and two runs scored in the win.
Kolbe Coey, Coeur d'Alene (Tuesday, March 18)
The Vikings opened their season with a 15-0 win over Ridgeline High from Liberty Lake, Washington. Coey went 4-for-4 with a home run, three stolen bases, three runs scored and two RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Payton Garcia, Caldwell (Wednesday, March 12)
Caldwell opened their season with a 13-5 win over Borah on the first day of the season. Garcia went 2-for-3 and socked a home run and a double on her way to five RBIs and a run scored. She also drew one walk.
Tayelynn Puyleart, Mountain View (Thursday, March 13)
Puyleart went 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored in the Mavs' 18-7 win over Meridian.
Brielle Briggs, Preston (Friday, March 14)
In the Indians' 24-4 win over Canyon Ridge, Briggs went 2-for-3 and ripped a double and a triple while also walking once. Briggs finished with 4 RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
Madie Thomas, St. Maries (Saturday, March 15)
Thomas hit for the cycle in the Lumberjacks' 22-13 win over Kendrick. Thomas went 5-for-5 with a home run, triple, double and two singles. Thomas' home run was of the inside-the-park variety, and she finished with four RBIs and four runs scored.
Roxy Mason, Fruitland (Monday, March 17)
Mason powered the Grizzlies to a 12-11 win over Melba by going 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Addisyn Vanderwall, Grangeville (Tuesday, March 18)
Vanderwall ripped two home runs as part of a 4-for-5 day overall in the Bulldogs' 17-3 victory over Kendrick. In addition to the two homers, Vanderwall added a double and a triple, and finished with seven RBIs and three runs scored.
