DAY ONE RECAPS

 

6A TOURNAMENT AT FORD IDAHO CENTER

Semifinals

LAKE CITY 63, BOISE 60: No. 2 seeded Lake City held off a late charge by No. 6 seeded Boise to advance to Saturday's 6A state title game.

The Timberwolves led 38-23 at halftime before the Brave poured in 37 points in the second half. The teams combined for 16 made 3-pointers. Lake City shot 55.8 percent from the field for the game and led by as much as 17 points before Boise began chipping away and cut the lead to one point in the fourth quarter.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Reese Strawn had 27 points and went 6-of-7 from 3-point range while Joshua Watson had a double-double of 15 points, 14 rebounds along with two assists for Lake City (21-4), which plays No. 1 seeded Owyhee in Saturday's state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Luke Soltau had 23 points, three assists and three steals, Isaac Thacker had 12 points and three assists and Will Gebert had 11 points, five rebounds and went 3-of-7 from 3-point range for Boise (12-15), which plays No. 4 seeded Timberline in Saturday's third place game.


OWYHEE 50, TIMBERLINE 42: No. 1 seeded Owyhee reained undefeated versus Idaho competition this season with a win over No. seeded Timberline to advance to its third state title game in four years.

Owyhee, which led 28-19 at halftime, got 15 points from its bench and built a lead of 14 points in the win.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Jace Allen had nine points and Boden Howell added 16 points for Owyhee (22-4), which plays No. 2 seeded Lake City in Saturday's state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Jacob Heyne had 15 points and four rebounds and Alex Ko added 11 points for Timberline (17-11), which plays No. 6 seeded Boise in Saturday's third place game.


Consolation bracket

MADISON 54, THUNDER RIDGE 27: No. 3 seeded Madison defeated conference foe and No. 7 seeded Thunder Ridge to remain undefeated versus district opponents and keep its season going.

It was Madison's fourth win over Thunder Ridge this season. The Bobcats led by as much as 28 points, shooting 42.9 percent from the field for the game.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Nash Humpherys had 15 points and two steals and Carter Lerwill added 13 points and two assists for Madison (22-3), which plays No. 8 seeded Borah in Saturday's consolation final.

Kyler Sparks had nine points to lead Thunder Ridge, which ends the season 13-13.


BORAH 53, MERIDIAN 41: No. 8 seeded Borah had a huge fourth quarter in a consolation bracket win over No. 5 seeded Meridian.

The Lions, who held a 23-22 lead at halftime and trailed 33-32 after three, poured in 21 points in the fourth quarter. The game had seven lead changes and three ties. Borah shot 43.5 percent from the field for the game to Meridian's 23.5 percent.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Dylan Luekenga had 13 points and six rebounds and Colton Dennis had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists for Borah (12-14), which plays No. 3 seeded Madison in Saturday's consolation final.

Tristan Fortin had 14 points and six rebounds and TJ Sanor had nine points and four rebounds for Meridian, which ends the season 15-11.


5A TOURNAMENT AT ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL

Semifinals

HILLCREST 56, TWIN FALLS 46: No. 3 seeded Hillcrest advanced to its fourth consecutive state championship game.

The Knights, who shot 53.8 percent from the field for the game, including 61.9 percent in the first half, never trailed.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Gabe Blakeslee had 21 points, eight rebounds and two assists and Britton Lords added 13 points for Hillcrest (20-5), which plays No. 1 seeded Preston in Saturday's 5A state title game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Ryker Rex had 14 points and three steals and Trey Billing had 11 points and three rebounds for No. 7 seeded Twin Falls (15-10), which plays No. 5 seeded Bonneville in Saturday's third place game.


PRESTON 74, BONNEVILLE 55: No. 1 seeded Preston advanced to its first state title game in four years, breaking out after a tight first quarter to defend No. 5 seeded Bonneville in Friday's semifinals.

Preston, which shot 54 percent from the field for the game, scored 26 points in the third quarter and built a lead as large as 25 points.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Reggie Larsen scored the most of any player in any of Friday's state tournament games, finishing with 39 points, six rebounds and two steals and went 5-of-8 from 3-point range and Parker Galloway added nine points for Preston (24-1), which plays No. 3 seeded Hillcrest in Saturday's 5A state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Tyler Jordan had 15 points and Ryan Egbert had 10 points and five rebounds for Bonneville (16-11), which plays No. 7 seeded Twin Falls in Saturday's third place game.


Consolation bracket

COLUMBIA 68, LEWISTON 62: No. 6 seeded Columbia endured 10 lead changes and four ties to keep its season alive and defeat No. 2 seeded Lewiston.

The Wildcats shot 56.8 percent from the field for the game.

IdahoSports Co-Players of the Game Tavin Jones had 23 points and three assists and Max Keller had 20 points and four assists while teammate Blake Hansen had a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for Columbia (15-13), which plays No. 4 seeded Middleton in Saturday's consolation final.

Parker Bogar had 19 points, Royce Fisher had 13 points, five assists and two steals and Jordan Walker had 12 points for Lewiston, which ends the season 20-6.


MIDDLETON 52, JEROME 37: No. 4 seeded Middleton made nine 3-pointers and built a lead as large as 22 points in a consolation bracket win over No. 8 seeded Jerome.

The Vikings shot 31 percent from 3-point range and 41.3 percent from the field.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Tye Cornwall had 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and went 4-of-7 from 3-point range and Blake Bishop had 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals for Middleton (18-8) which plays No. 6 seeded Columbia in Saturday's consolation final.

Andrew Wilson had 11 points and five rebounds and AJ Johnson had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists for Jerome, which ends the season 11-15.


4A TOURNAMENT AT EAGLE HIGH SCHOOL

Semifinals

SNAKE RIVER 67, MCCALL-DONNELLY 47: No. 2 seeded Snake River defeated No. 6 seeded McCall-Donnelly to advance to the state title game for the first time in eight years.

The Panthers lit up the nets, finishing the game shooting 54.2 percent from the field. They were also nearly perfect on foul shots, going 11-of-12 from the free throw line.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Dawson Jackman had 14 points, two assists and three steals, Marcus Coombs had 17 points, four rebounds and two assists and Bridjer Howard had 16 points and three rebounds for Snake River (25-3), which plays No. 1 seeded Bonners Ferry in Saturday's 4A state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Sam Penny had 14 points, Sam Scott had 12 points and Michael Foster had 10 points and five rebounds for McCall-Donnelly (15-10), which plays No. 5 seeded Marsh Valley in Saturday's third place game.


BONNERS FERRY 67, MARSH VALLEY 54: No. 1 seeded Bonners Ferry outlasted No. 5 seeded Marsh Valley to move on to Saturday's state title game.

Both teams shot well, with Bonners Ferry making 45.2 percent of shots from the field and Marsh Valley shooting 55.6 percent from the field for the game. The Badgers never trailed and also outrebounded the Eagles 38-22.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Asher Williams had 30 points and was 4-of-4 from 3-point range, Brody Rice had a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and two assists and Thomas Bateman had 11 points and seven rebounds for Bonners Ferry (23-1), which plays No. 2 seeded Snake Riiver in Saturday's 4A state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Jaxson Smith had 18 points and four rebounds and Justis Whitworth had 12 points, six rebounds and three steals for Marsh Valley (14-12), which plays No. 6 seeded McCall-Donnelly in Saturday's third place game.


Consolation bracket

SUGAR-SALEM 57, FILER 45: No. 2 seeded Sugar-Salem had a strong second half en route to a win over No. 7 seeded Filer.

The Diggers scored 23 points off 20 Filer turnovers and scored 16 points in the paint for the game.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Riley Williams had 16 points, three assists and two steals and Ky Peterson had 10 points and five rebounds for Sugar-Salem (19-6), which plays No. 8 seeded Kimberly in Saturday's consolation final.

Preston Volle had 16 points and three assists, Xavier Kelsey had 16 points and seven rebounds and Owen Grant had 10 points, five rebounds and two assists for Filer, which ends the season 14-11.


KIMBERLY 77, COLE VALLEY 66: No. 8 seeded Kimberly had four players finish with double-figure scoring in a consolation bracket win over No. 4 seeded Cole Valley.

The Bulldogs shot 42.4 percent from the field for the game and frequented the free throw line, shooting 72.7 percent from the charity stripe.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Broden Anthony had 24 points and five rebounds, Gerwin Jeschke had 20 points, five rebounds and went 8-of-10 from the free throw line, Quentin Pettingill had 14 points and five rebounds and Ryker Larson had 10 points, five rebounds and two assists for Kimberly (13-15), which plays No. 2 seeded Sugar-Salem in Saturday's consolation final.

Soren Fraas had 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, Isaiah Holsinger had 16 points and Cooper Kollman had 11 points and six rebounds for Cole Valley, which ends the season 15-9.


3A TOURNAMENT AT CAPITAL HIGH SCHOOL

Semifinals

WENDELL 57, FIRTH 47: No. 3 seeded Wendell outlasted No. 2 seeded Firth to advance to Saturday's 3A state title game, its first state championship appearance in 21 years.

The Trojans endured 10 lead changes and three ties. The teams combined to make 14 3-pointers and both shot well from the field. Firth shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and Wendell followed that up by shooting 42.1 percent in the second half.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Jordan Swainston added 23 points--11 in the fourth quarter--and two assists while Jonathan Swainston had 24 points, five rebounds and four steals for Wendell (19-6), which plays No. 1 seeded Declo in Saturday's state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Michael Adams had 14 points and seven rebounds, Madex Howell had 14 points and Wyatt Killpack had 13 points and six rebounds for Firth (19-6), which plays No. 4 seeded Ambrose in Saturday's third place game.


DECLO 52, AMBROSE 51: No. 1 seeded Declo won a thriller over No. 4 seeded and defending state champion Ambrose in the tightest contest of the day to set up an all District 4 state title game versus No. 3 seeded Wendell.

The game had it all--14 lead changes, four ties and a potential game-winning shot rimming out for Ambrose at the end in a packed gym.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Carter Robertson had a double-double of 11 points, 14 rebounds and three assists, Joey Garrard had 13 points and seven rebounds and Emmett Gibby had 10 points and five rebounds for Declo (25-1), which will play in Saturday's 3A state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Trestin Trevino had 24 points and five rebounds and Mark Yenor had 10 points and four rebounds for Ambrose (16-9), which plays No. 2 seeded Firth in Saturday's third place game.


Consolation bracket

NEW PLYMOUTH 61, MARSING 47: No. 6 seeded New Plymouth knocked down 11 3-pointers and built a lead as large as 19 points in a win over No. 7 seeded Marsing.

The Pilgrims were also a force on the glass, grabbing 56 rebounds to the Huskies' 36.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Ashton Robinson had a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds while Josiah Gustin had 17 points and eight rebounds and went 5-of-16 from 3-point range for New Plymouth (18-8), which plays No. 5 seeded Soda Springs in Saturday's consolation final.

Juan Ponce had a game-high 23 points, five rebounds and three steals and Jace Chadez added 11 points for Marsing, which ends the season 12-13.


SODA SPRINGS 65, OROFINO 56: No. 5 seeded Soda Springs emerged victorious after six lead changes and three ties in a consolation bracket win over No. 8 seeded Orofino.

The Cardinals trailed 32-28 at halftime before rallying in the second half. Soda Springs shot 54.2 percent from the field for the game, including 56.5 percent in the second half, and scored 23 points off 17 Orofino turnovers.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Cooper Thompson had 24 points, seven assists and went 5-of-16 from 3-point range, Gavin Hansen had 14 points , eight rebounds, three assists and five steals and Kyen Kirby had 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals for Soda Springs (15-11), which plays No. 6 seeded New Plymouth in Saturday's consolation final.

Blake Barlow had 12 points , Quinton Naranjo had 11 points and five rebounds, Hudson Schneider had 11 points, four rebounds and three assists and Nick Bonner had 11 points and two steals for Orofino, which ends the season 9-15.


2A TOURNAMENT AT VALLIVUE HIGH SCHOOL

Semifinals

KENDRICK 66, GRACE 54: No. 3 seeded Kendrick stretched its win streak to 12 games and advanced to Saturday's 2A state title game.

The Tigers led 35-11 at halftime before Grace clawed back to cut the deficit to 45-37 after three quarters.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Ralli Roetcisoender had 25 points, five rebounds, three assists, four steals and was 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 10-of-11 from the free throw line while Cade Silflow had 16 points and went 3-of-6 from 3 and Maddox Kirkland had 11 points , five assists and two blocks for Kendrick (19-7), which plays No. 1 seeded Kamiah in Saturday's state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Laexin Van Gass had 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Braden Kimball had 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals for No. 7 seeded Grace (13-14), which plays No. 4 seeded Lakeside in Saturday's third place game.


KAMIAH 69, LAKESIDE 51: No. 1 seeded Kamiah got double-figure scoring from five players in a semifinal win over No. 4 seeded Lakeside to advance to Saturday's state title game.

The Kubs scored 26 points in the first quarter and shot 49.1 percent from the field for the game.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Jaydon Crowe had 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, Lawson Landmark had 15 points, Matthew Oatman had 14 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals, David Kludt had a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds, nine assists, three blocks and three steals and Everett Oatman had 10 points and seven rebounds for Kamiah (23-2), which plays Long Pin conference foe Kendrick in Saturday's 2A state championship game at the Ford Idaho Center.

Hallah Peone had 23 points, seven rebounds, two assists and four steals and Tyson Charley had 13 points, six rebounds and three steals for Lakeside (16-6), which plays No. 7 seeded Grace in Saturday's third place game.


Consolation bracket

VALLEY 68, HAGERMAN 61: No. 2 seeded Valley bounced back from its first loss of the season with a consolation bracket win over No. 6 seeded Hagerman.

Both teams shot better than 40 percent from the field for the game (Valley 44.2 percent, Hagerman 47.1 percent) and combined to make 15 3-pointers. Valley did have the advantage at the free throw line, however, going 15-of-19.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Pedro Robles had 27 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals and Nathan Christensen had 12 points for Valley (23-1), which plays No. 5 seeded Riverstone in Saturday's consolation final.

Ky Kendall had 20 points, eight rebounds and two assists and went 4-of-9 from 3-point range, Martin Gonzalez had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists and Will Mavencamp had 11 points, four rebounds and two assists for Hagerman, which ends the season 16-10.


RIVERSTONE 63, VICTORY CHARTER 41: No. 5 seeded Riverstone dominated the glass and knocked down eight 3-pointers in a consolation bracket win over No. 8 seeded Victory Charter to preserve its season.

The Otters outrebounded the Vipers 41-23 and shot 47.7 percent from the field for the game, including 66.7 percent in the second half.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Finn Simon had 19 points, six rebounds and two assists and went 5-of-7 from 3-point range, Amer Sangha had 18 points and two assists, Conrad Ness had 11 points, four rebounds and three assists and JB Brown had 10 points, nine assists and three assists for Riverstone (21-3), which plays No. 2 seeded Valley in Saturday's consolation final.

Cody Luce had 22 points, five rebounds and went 3-of-7 from 3-point range to lead Victory Charter, which ends the season 14-11.



1A TOURNAMENT AT CALDWELL HIGH SCHOOL

Semifinals

CHALLIS 52, ROCKLAND 49: No. 6 seeded Challis continued its magical March, riding a strong second half to defeat No. 2 seeded and conference foe Rockland for the first time in three meetings this season and advance to Saturday's 1A state title game.

The Vikings (16-11) had previously lost to Rockland by a combined 34 points. The win comes 24 hours after defeating conference foe Watersprings for the first time in three meetings.

Saturday makes Challis' second state title appearance in program history, as the Vikings placed second in 2014 in the 1A Division I classification.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Brayden Ollar had 15 points and went 8-of-10 from the free throw line while Teage Erickson had 10 points and four rebounds for Challis, which plays No. 1 seeded Dietrich in Saturday's state championship game.

Xavier Parrish had 18 points and Woodrow Lowder had 11 points , nine rebounds and four assists for Rockland (21-4), which plays No. 5 seeded Garden Valley in Saturday's third place game.


DIETRICH 65, GARDEN VALLEY 57: No. 1 seeded Dietrich was a force on the glass and from 3-point range in a win over No. 5 seeded Garden Valley to advance to Saturday's 1A state title game.

The Blue Devils outrebounded the Wolverines 51-32 and made seven 3-pointers in the win.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Connor Perkins had a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds, Chase Norman added 16 points and seven rebounds and Corrd Wells had 15 points and went 3-of-8 from 3-point range for Dietrich (21-3), which plays No. 6 seeded Challis in Saturday's state championship game.

Trevor Corn had 15 points and went 3-of-8 from 3-point range, Conor Ross had a double-double of 14 points 11 rebounds for Garden Valley (20-9), which plays No. 2 seeded Rockland in Saturday's third place game.


Consolation bracket

WATERSPRINGS 68, NEZPERCE 56: No. 3 seeded Watersprings bounced back from an opening round loss with a massive second half and had three athletes finish with double-doubles to win Friday's consolation bracket game over No. 7 seeded Nezperce.

The Warriors poured in 41 points in the second half. Watersprings also dominated on the glass, grabbing 50 boards to Nezperce's 29.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Ryan Demkowicz had a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds and three assists and went 7-of-8 on free throws, Titus Driver also had a double-double of had 16 points and 14 rebounds, Jonny Thienes had 13 points and Korban Nelson had a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for Watersprings (21-4), which plays No. 4 seeded Cascade in Saturday's consolation final.

Aidan McLeod had 15 points and four rebounds, Brennen McLeod had 12 points and six rebounds, Slater Kuther had 12 points , four rebounds and five steals and Carter Williams had 10 points and six rebounds for Nezperce, which ends the season 13-7.


CASCADE 64, COEUR DU CHRIST 57 (2 OT): No. 4 seeded Cascade outlasted No. seeded and IHSAA newcomer Coeur du Christ in a marathon double-overtime game to preserve its season.

The game was knotted at 49-49 after regulation and 52-52 after the first overtime before the Ramblers outscored the Saints 12-5 in the second overtime to take the win. The teams combined to make 14 3-pointers.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Cole Olson had 27 points and seven rebounds, Finn Wilkins had 11 points, four rebounds and three assists and Hayden Hull had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for Cascade (18-7), which plays No. 3 seeded Watersprings in Saturday's consolation final.

Ben Connelly had a double-double of 22 points, 10 rebounds and two assists and Grant Clemens had 22 points, five rebounds and three assists for Coeur du Christ, which ends its first season as an officially sanctioned IHSAA program 14-10.
