Idaho High School Volleyball: Keeping Up with the Kill (Week 9)
With the state tournament just one week away, which volleyball teams are peaking at the right time?

Just one more week until state!

Things are heating up on all levels as we saw 6A powers Madison and Skyview match up in a Utah tournament.  In a five-set fight, Madison was able to come out on top!  The Bobcats also beat some strong Utah teams at the tournament and Skyview had some impressive wins there as well.  Both programs have built their programs to be strong and ready to face new challenges.  This has really helped prepare them both as it all comes down to next week's state tournament!

Centennial, Eagle and Owyhee are close behind and the 6A state tournament will definitely be competitive and a fun one to watch play out.  All of these teams are aggressive and experienced, and faced long, enduring matches when they've played so far this season.  It's going to be some fun volleyball at the 6A state tourney!

In 5A action, Lakeland is in the lead and is finishing strong in their district!  Idaho Falls is another fierce team fighting to remain number one in their district.  Pocatello and Wood River both look powerful as well, and when they faced each other earlier this season, the teams dueled to a five-set battle that ultimately went to Pocatello!

Lewiston is new to this classification (dropping down from 6A) and they are currently in the top four as well!  Lakeland and Lewiston haven't faced most of the other top teams in their classification.  That carries advantages and disadvantages but makes for more exciting competition!

At the 4A level, Bear Lake has been dominating all season and so has Fruitland!  Both teams have been consistent and have set new heights for their schools!  McCall-Donnelly and Kimberly are close behind in the rankings, and all four teams look strong to finish this week off with a berth to state!

Class 3A has Melba, Malad and Ambrose at the top of the rankings.  Melba and Malad got to battle in the state championship last year, but Ambrose has really come a long way this season!  The Archers are ranked third in the 3A classification, and this season Ambrose is 15-5, a big improvement from last year's 8-10 mark!  What an improvement and a fast one!

2A volleyball takes us to Troy and Butte County.  These teams being at the top isn't a surprise for those paying attention to this classification.  Both have been dominant all season long, coming up with some losses against bigger schools but overall remaining resilient and consistent.  Valley, Potlatch and Oakley all have similar records and are fighting to finish at the top of their district tournaments!

1A volleyball has seen Horseshoe Bend, Mackay and Rockland occupying the top of the rankings all season.  Mackay and Rockland will play for the District 5-6 championship this week but both have already received a bid to state.  Genesee is also fighting to remain up top.  They were able to take a set from a talented Troy team last week, but the Trojans were able to earn the non-conference win in four sets.  Grace Lutheran is also in the 1A hunt, along with Carey and Council.  All of these teams fought it out at state last year as well!
