Idaho High School Volleyball: Keeping Up with the Kill (Week 5)
The Skyview Hawks competed well in Las Vegas, and the Melba Mustangs look tough again this year

Here we are coming to the end of September.  Senior nights and the rest of conference play awaits.

What an exciting time as we have teams like Skyview playing in one of the biggest tournaments featuring top teams from all of the country this past week!  The Hawks finished 25th out of 64 high-level teams at the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas, and they won their bracket to finish play!  Great job girls and way to represent!  Skyview will continue to defend their title this season as they are now a 6A team, and will battle Idaho's biggest schools for that title.  We are excited to watch them continue a strong season.

Jumping to another powerful team to watch, let's talk about Melba!  Melba is also defending their title and look to stay at the top of Class 3A's volleyball standings.  Melba returns strong leaders in their seniors: Tariah Carter, Jessica Hipwell, Kali Adams, Kamree Dean, and Grace Clark.  Tariah, Joelle Kelly and Ellie Johnson are returning All-State players, and they have an experienced coach in Curtis Johnson.

Tariah is a strong outside hitter who uses her height and court sense to create and execute big plays.  She is a leader all-around in serve-receive, kills and digs.  Tariah is now a senior and a multi-sport athlete, hoping to help Melba make it all the way!

Her teammate Joelle Kelly is only a sophomore but she's mature and has had an impressive start to her high school career.  Joelle joins Tariah on the outside as they work together to control the serve and pass game.

Also joining them to help control the game is their quarterback Ellie Johnson.  Ellie is a setter who places the ball exactly where her teammates need it in order to make the big scores and play defense-first ball.

Melba lost key seniors from last year's championship team, but they have young talent that remains, and they currently have only lost to two bigger schools this season as they have a record of 11-1.

We are excited for the back half of the season and we realize there is lots more to come!  Make the most of it, girls, as it goes by quick!
