Volleyball season is flying by as we are already halfway through September! We aren't quite halfway through the season, but things are heating up everywhere!
We saw a Centennial and Skyview showdown, where Skyview came out on top after five hard-fought sets.
We also saw how Madison battled through many teams to take home the gold at the ThunderBee Tournament, defeating many top teams in the state including Rocky Mountain, Centennial and Owyhee.
So Madison remains undefeated as they continue to defend their state title. Congrats to the Bobcats as they've had new coaches each of the past two seasons, but the program remains strong!
Another team with a strong program that also remains undefeated this season is Troy!
The Trojans know how to compete as they won five-set thrillers in both the district championship and the 1AD1 (now 2A) state championship last year! This year's Troy Trojans are currently 12-0 and the rankings continue to have them and Butte County at the top spot. Although these two will likely not see each other until later this season, the Trojans are the three-time defending state champions, and they look to their seniors to lead them back to a familiar place!
This season, the Trojans have three senior leaders in setter Ashlyn Strunk, outside hitter Teagan Gale and libero Nicole Hunter. Those are three key positions with three key players needed to run the offense and defense. Troy has the experience at those three spots, though, and Gale looks to continue to lead the Trojans in serve-receive percentages and kills per set. Hunter seeks to also lead in serve-receive percentage and digs per set, while Strunk runs the floor offensively. leading in assists and planning the attack.
Troy has defeated teams from all levels statewide, and are 12-0. The Trojans defeated Prairie and Kendrick last week and will face off against Logos and Lapwai this week.
Good luck to all teams this week as we get deeper into the season and deeper into conference play!
