Here’s a team to watch: the Coeur d’Alene Vikings!
These girls are on a roll! They are currently undefeated in tournament play and undefeated in regular season competition, as they have started their regular season slate 2-0.
The Vikings have proved their potential as they went 9-0 two weeks ago at the season-opening Kuna Klassic, and then won regular season games against two fierce rivals.
First, the victorious Vikings competed and defeated teams from all over the state and from all levels at the Kuna Klassic, including Ambrose, Cole Valley Christian, Grace Lutheran, Melba and Mountain View in the championship!
Then, last week, they continued their strong play with wins over Lakeland and Sandpoint.
The Vikings are leaning on senior outside hitter Paisley Goings, senior outside/opposite hitter Kaydence Green, senior middle blocker Aiva Reed, senior setter Lizzy Hardy, and senior libero Gracie Legg to lead them this season.
Coeur d’Alene battled in the 5A state tournament last year but fell in their first two matches at state, but this season they are up and ready for all the adversity and challenges ahead! Their coach, Carly Curtis, is excited to see the hustle and grit her girls have!
Paisley Goings is a returning All-State player for the mighty Vikings. Goings is hitting at .290 for the season so far, and is leading her team in digs and aces.
Gracie Legg is the returning 5A Inland Empire League Defensive Player of the Year and currently holds the school record for digs! Gracie led the team last week in aces and digs per set.
Kaydence Green, a force at the net, led the way against Sandpoint with nine kills and a hitting percentage over .400. Green returns as an All-League player as well!
Aiva Reed, another great defender for the Vikings, currently leads her team in blocks and helps shape their offense, not only at the net but also with a tough serve. She’s also leading her team overall in aces per set, along with Green.
All of these players control and place the ball well. They have great court sense and work together to play dominating defense and eliminate unforced errors.
Good luck this season girls! We are excited and will be watching!
