After what seemed like an unnecessarily long winter season, a light has re-emerged amongst the dreary darkness of December and January.

That's right: it's time for brackets!

This is the time of year when I cease being Brandon Baney, and transform into "Brackets" Baney.

The first games of the 2024 Girls Basketball District Tournament Season began last night, as Watersprings downed American Heritage and Taylor's Crossing knocked out Clark County to kick off the Class 1AD2 District 5-6 Tournament.

Those play-in games have now set the tone for the opening round of double-elimination games on Saturday:

#8 Taylor's Crossing at #1 Mackay
#7 Watersprings at #2 Leadore
#6 Sho-Ban at #3 Rockland
and #5 North Gem at #4 Grace Lutheran

Everyone else will begin at some point after this weekend.  Here's a complete list of when every district tournament will begin:
