ORDER GAME PHOTOS
It’s time for this week’s edition of Primetime Pitchers. Every Tuesday, we'll recap the five most dominating pitching performances from the past week of baseball competition.
Why five? Because most pitching rotations carry five players.
I should note that these are single-game performances only. I don't have the math skills to pull off calculating weekly totals.
If you'd like to nominate an athlete for our Primetime Pitchers list, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
With that said, here's our list of Idaho baseball's Primetime Pitchers, from the week of May 1st to May 6th. The performances will be listed in chronological order.
1. Dominic Holden, So, Troy
Another week, another standout performance from Holden on the bump. In a 4-2 Whitepine League win over Potlatch on Monday, May 1st, Holden threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on just one hit, while striking out 12 batters. On the season, Holden has allowed four earned runs total, giving him a microscopic ERA of 0.11.
2. Zeke Ochoa, Sr, Horseshoe Bend
Ochoa is no stranger to this list, but his performance in a 10-0 win over Western Idaho Conference foe Wilder on Thursday, May 4th, was his best performance yet. The senior threw a no-hitter in five innings of work, and two walks were the only thing standing between him and a perfect game. Ochoa offset the two walks with 11 strikeouts.
3. Greyson Martin, So, Bonneville
Martin pitched the Bees to the High Country Conference Championship Series and a spot in the Class 4A State Tournament on Friday, May 5th, in a pair of wins over Hillcrest. In Game One of the best-of-three semifinal series (an 11-1) win, the sophomore pitched a complete game, allowing a lone run on three hits. Because of his efficient outing in Game One, Martin also started Game Two (a 16-4 win), and tossed two innings to earn the win again.
4. Dax Whitney, Jr, Blackfoot
Whitney helped the Broncos clinch a spot in the High Country Conference Championship Series and the 4A State Tournament in a 7-1 win over Skyline on Friday, May 5th. Whitney threw all seven innings, yielding just three hits, two walks and an unearned run. The Oregon State University commit also finished with 13 strikeouts. If that wasn’t enough, Whitney hit a home run and drove in four at the plate, as well.
5. Josh Biltonen, Sr, Potlatch
The Loggers picked up a shutout victory over Whitepine League foe Lewis County on Saturday, May 6th. In five innings of work, Biltonen pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
