ORDER GAME PHOTOS
It’s time for this week’s edition of Heavy Hitters. Every Monday, we'll recap the nine most scintillating hitting performances from the past week of competition.
Why nine? Because there's nine batters in the lineup.
I should note that these are single-game performances only. I don't have the math skills to pull off calculating weekly totals.
If you'd like to nominate an athlete for our Heavy Hitters list, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
With that said, here's our list of Idaho baseball's Heavy Hitters, from the week of April 17th to April 22nd. The performances will be listed in chronological order.
1. Logan Smith, So, Kellogg
In the Wildcats’ 27-5 win over Priest River on Monday, April 17th, Smith went 4-for-5 with a home run, five RBIs and four runs scored. Smith drew a walk as well.
2. Jace Mordhorst, So, Fruitland
Fruitland’s tall sophomore enjoyed a fine night in the Grizzlies’ 30-0 win over McCall-Donnelly in Snake River Conference play on Monday, April 17th. In six trips to the plate, Mordhorst went 2-for-3 with two triples, six RBIs, and three runs scored. Mordhorst also drew two walks and was hit by a pitch.
3. Strider Perry, Sr, Firth
In a 14-2 Nuclear Conference victory over Salmon on Wednesday, April 19th, Perry was a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs scored, and two RBIs.
4. Jack Driskill, Jr, Moscow
Driskill actually attends Logos, but the Knights don’t have a baseball team, so their loss is Moscow’s gain. In a 13-3 non-conference win over Pullman (Washington) on Thursday, April 20th, Driskill went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, a stolen base, and a run scored.
5. Carson Schilling, So, Clearwater Valley
With first place in the Whitepine League on the line, the Rams blew past Prairie 16-1 on Thursday, April 20th. In three tirps to the plate, Schilling hit a home run, a double, and walked. Schilling drove in three runs, and also scored all three times he came up to bat. His numbers could have been even bigger if the game hadn’t been called after three innings due to the ten-run rule.
6. Will Chappell, So, Sugar-Salem
Chappell drove in four runs on a home run, a triple and two singles as the Diggers blitzed Mountain Rivers Conference rival South Fremont 14-4 on Thursday, April 20th. Chappell also drew a walk and scored three times.
7. Makhi Durrett, So, Troy
Durrett went 3-for-4 with a triple, five RBIs and three runs scored in a 14-1 win over Lapwai in Whitepine League action on Thursday, April 20th. Additionally, Durrett swiped three bags in the win.
8. Trent Swygart, Sr, Middleton
The Vikings handed Centennial a Southern Idaho Conference loss on Friday, April 21st, by a 13-3 margin. Swygart was busy, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple, four RBIs, two runs scored, and a hit by pitch.
9. Chris Ricard, Sr, Lewiston
The lanky Ricard had a great day at the plate in a 15-9 win over Sandpoint in Inland Empire League action on Saturday, April 22nd. In five trips to the plate, Ricard tallied four hits, including a home run and a double. He also finished with four RBIs and two runs scored.
