ORDER GAME PHOTOS
With the softball season finally starting to heat up, it's time to start focusing on the outstanding young ladies who make this sport one of the most exciting to watch.
With that, we've launched a new feature this spring: Primetime Pitchers. Every Tuesday, we'll recap the five most dominating pitching performances from the past week of competition.
Why five? Because most pitching rotations carry five players.
I should note that these are single-game performances only. I don't have the math skills to pull off calculating weekly totals.
If you'd like to nominate an athlete for our Primetime Pitchers list, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
With that said, here's our debut list of Idaho softball's Primetime Pitchers, from the week of March 27th to April 1st. The performances will be listed in chronological order.
1. Miah Lusk, Jr, Pocatello
The Pocatello Thunder traveled to Burley on Tuesday, March 28th, and walked away with an 8-3 victory. Lusk allowed just three hits total in seven innings of work, and of the three runs Burley scored against her, only one was earned. Lusk also notched 13 strikeouts and only walked two batters.
2. Kya Hueth, Fr, Boise
In a 10-0 shutout victory over Ridgevue in non-conference play on Tuesday, March 28th, Hueth held Warhawks batters to a .048 average. The freshman tossed a one-hitter, striking out six batters while only walking one in six innings in the pitcher's circle.
3. Peyton Shook, Fr, Nampa Christian
Our second freshman to qualify for our inaugural list, Shook was sensational in a 21-1 non-conference win over Vale (Oregon) on Tuesday, March 28th. Across five innings, Shook scattered three hits and a single run, while striking out 12 Vale Vikings.
4. Kaliann Scoresby, Jr, Thunder Ridge
With severe winter weather still afflicting east Idaho, Thunder Ridge traveled west to Centennial on Friday, March 31st and picked up a 7-0 shutout victory. Scoresby threw all seven innings for the Titans, yielded just two hits to the Patriots, and recorded 13 strikeouts.
5. Lizzy Tommasini, Sr, Eagle
The Idaho State University commit showcased her skills in a 6-0 shutout win over arch-rival Owyhee on Friday, March 31st. Tommasini went the distance, tossing seven innings of shutout ball. She scattered five hits, and registered 13 strikeouts in the victory.
