2023 Idaho High School Girls Basketball State Tournament Recap (Day Three)
Two new scoring records were established during Saturday's consolation action.

5A Consolation Final | Rigby 45, Owyhee 28

No. 3 Rigby captured the consolation title at RIdgevue High School with a smothering defensive effort against No. 5 Owyhee.

The Trojans (22-5) forced 15 turnovers and held Owyhee to 20.5% shooting from the floor.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Kambree Barber finished with 13 points, 16 rebounds and two assists.  The junior finished with a double-double in all three of Rigby's tournament games.  

Emma Atchley and Addy Wright each scored nine points for Owyhee (20-6).

5A Third Place Game | Boise 66, Timberline 37

In a rematch of last year's 5A state championship game, the No. 4 Brave earned revenge over No. 6 Timberline, earning the third place trophy at Ridgevue High School.

The Brave shot 53.8% from the three-point line in the win, and held Timberline to 28.6% from beyond the arc.

Boise (23-3) was led by IdahoSports Player of the Game Avery Howell.  For the third game in a row at state, Howell tallied a double-double of 26 points and 16 rebounds.  Kaity Haan added 12.

Emmi Swillie scored 11 points for Timberline (21-7)

4A Consolation Final | Pocatello 68. Minico 58

No. 4 Pocatello earned the consolation trophy over No. 6 Minico, while the Spartans' CJ Latta established a new scoring record for the 4A State Tournament.

Latta finished with 29 points for Minico (17-9), giving her a three-game total of 95 points and a three-game average of 31.2 points per game  Both of those marks break 4A State Tournament records set in 2022 by former Burley guard Amari Whiting.

Pocatello (17-7) was led by IdahoSports Player of the Game Abby Lusk.  The freshman finished with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds.

4A Third Place Game | Bishop Kelly 42, Columbia 37

In an all-District 3 consolation final, No. 5 Bishop Kelly held off No. 7 Columbia at Timberline High School.

With his team trailing 18-17 at halftime, Bishop Kelly coach Derek McCormick started five reserve players to start the second half, and that group delivered, as the Knights (22-4) outscored Columbia (15-12) 14-9 in the third period.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Jordyn Carnell led the bench unit, scoring a team-high ten points.  Caroline Knothe added eight.

Columbia's Violet Soto led all scorers with 11 points.  She also grabbed five rebounds.

3A Third Place Game | Teton 64, Sugar-Salem 62

After sporting an 0-4 record against their District 6 rivals, No. 6 Teton broke through to defeat No. 4 Sugar-Salem for the first time this year, earning the third place trophy at Skyview High School.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Reese Kunz tallied a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Abi Barkdull added 12 points for Teton (19-10).

Kennedy Gillette nearly willed the Diggers (16-8) to the win, scoring 40 points on 7-of-16 shooting from three and 11-of-12 shooting from the foul line.  Her 40 points and seven made 3's are both new 3A State Tournament records.

3A Consolation Final | Weiser 41, Parma 35

No. 5 Weiser outlasted district foe No. 3 Parma to claim the 3A consolation trophy at Skyview High School.

The Wolverines built a lead of 14 points but the teams traded leads three times and tied the game three times in a game with a combined 46 turnovers and 47 rebounds.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Tobie Noyer had 16 points for Weiser (23-4), while Mattie Shirts added 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Rylie Calkins had 13 points and five rebounds to lead Parma, which ends the season 20-6.

2A Third Place Game | West Side 49, Cole Valley Christian 41

Despite a significant height disadvantage, No. 5 West Side outrebounded No. 3 Cole Valley Christian 27-19 to earn the third place trophy at Bishop Kelly High School.  

IdahoSports Player of the Game Aubrie Barzee, standing at 5-foot-1, scored 14 points (mostly inside) and grabbed nine rebounds for the Pirates (18-9).  Natalie Lemmon added 13 and Leti Phillips scored 11.

Cole Valley Christian (19-7) was led by Trinity Holsinger's 20 points.  Hadley Fraas added nine.


2A Consolation Final | Ririe 51, Grangeville 49

Makinley Bond sank a putback as time expired at Bishop Kelly High School to give No. 4 Ririe the consolation trophy over No. 6 Grangeville.

The basket came after three consecutive missed attempts by the Bulldogs to end a game that was tight throughout, with 10 lead changes, five ties and a combined 34 turnovers.

Bond, who received IdahoSports Player of the Game, had eight points and six rebounds for Ririe, while Madi Andreasen added 12 points.

Caryss Barger had 16 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals, Addisyn Vanderwall had 12 points and eight rebounds and Madalyn Green added 11 points for Grangeville, which ends the season at 16-10.

1AD1 Third Place Game | Prairie 58, Lapwai 47

The fifth time was the charm for No.2 Prairie.  After dropping four games already this year to No. 1 Lapwai, the Pirates won when it mattered most, claiming the third place trophy at Columbia High School.

A 17-6 first quarter blitz from proved to be too much for Lapwai to overcome.  Prairie (21-6) also out-rebounded Lapwai 45-28.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Tara Schlader finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and six assists.  Lexi Schumacher led the Pirates in scoring with 19, while Kristin Wemhoff added 11 points and seven boards.

Lapwai (24-3) was paced by Quibilah Mitchell's 12 points, while Madden Bisbee added 11.


1AD1 Consolation Final | Grace 63, Liberty Charter 32

No. 4 Grace built a 44-12 halftime lead and shot 43.1 percent from the field for the game in a win over No. 6 Liberty Charter to claim the 1AD1 consolation trophy at Columbia High School.

The Grizzlies made seven 3-pointers in the win and built a lead as large as 34 points.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Tenleigh Walker had 27 points (5-of-6 from 3-point range), three rebounds and four steals for Grace (21-5), while Sydnee Smith added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Addison Bayne had a double-double of 15 points (7-of-7 on free throws) and 13 rebounds while Casey Collom added 10 points for Liberty Charter, which ends the season 15-8.

1AD2 Third Place Game | Rockland 38, Deary 31

The No. 2 Bulldogs held off a second-half comeback by No. 2 Deary to claim third place at Nampa High School.

Rockland (22-4) out-rebounded Deary 40-33, and earned 10 second chance points due to their rebounding prowess.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Addie Wilson scored 12 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.  Autumn Farr added eight points, while Addie's twin sister Taylor Wilson pulled down 14 rebounds.

Deary (18-4) was led by Araya Wood, who finished with 18 points, four rebounds and four steals.


1AD2 Consolation Final | Kendrick 59, Leadore 35

No. 3 Kendrick scored 20 points in the first quarter en route to a win over No. 5 Leadore to claim the consolation trophy at Nampa High School.

The Tigers, who had 10 turnovers in the game, turned 29 Leadore turnovers into 20 points.

IdahoSports Player of the Game Rose Stewart had a double-double of 18 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and three steals for Kendrick (18-5) while Hailey Taylor added 14 points, three rebounds and four assists.

Mackenzie Mackay had 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals for Leadore, which ends the season 20-6.
