This past week was an interesting one!  Many senior nights and homecoming nights are now over and last week marked a point in the season where some teams had many matches, while some only had one (or even none!)

Every team this week is working to prepare for the upcoming district tournaments.  That's where the moment arrives that everyone is waiting for - the chance for teams to earn their ticket to state!

Side note - we will have district tournament brackets posted as soon as we have them!

CLASS 5A

There are many powerful teams in this division who won't face each other until state tournament, and two teams are emerging just ahead of the others.  Madison and Eagle both hold undefeated records for the season, and both have played consistent volleyball throughout the year.  Eagle is at the top of the classification in the power rankings and took on two district foes last week.  They were able to win both matches against Meridian and Middleton.

Lake City is another powerful team in 5A volleyball, as they sit right behind Eagle in the power rankings.  They took on two district opponents last week.  They were able to defeat Lewiston and Post Falls, which places them at the top of their district bracket.

Madison, the powerhouse from the south, continues to lead their district.  They took on Thunder Ridge last week, and the Bobcats swept the Titans to continue their unbeaten streak.  The other two teams in District 5-6 (Highland and Rigby) also faced off last Tuesday, and Highland won the match in four sets.

CLASS 4A

Canyon Ridge and Skyview are at the top of the 4A power rankings.  Both squads lead their district and both play experienced volleyball.  Canyon Ridge defeated Wood River and Burley last week, while Skyview beat Emmett and Caldwell before taking third place at a national tournament in Nebraska televised on ESPN.

Bonneville and Century lead their respective districts and they faced each other in a non-conference nail-biter last week.  Century was able to defeat Bonneville this time, as the two sides have faced off in a couple of other situations this season in matches that didn't count towards their season records.  Pocatello and Highland were also able to face each other in a fun crosstown rivalry non-conference match, and the Rams walked away with the sweep.

Lakeland remains at the top of their district but didn't have a match last week.

CLASS 3A

Kimberly and Fruitland are at the top of the rankings in 3A volleyball.  Both of these teams take on many teams from different levels and have been able to defeat them, no matter the size of the opposing school.  Add these two to the list of undefeated teams, as they both won conference matches last week.

Snake River and Sugar-Salem are at the top of their districts.  Snake River defeated both of their league opponents (Marsh Valley and American Falls) last week, while Sugar-Salem did the same (against Teton and South Fremont.)  Last week featured an entire slate of district matches in the east, and all of these teams will face each other again soon as their district tournaments begin.

Up north, Bonners Ferry faced their only district opponent, Timberlake, and defeated them in a three-set match.

CLASS 2A

West Side hosted their annual tournament on Saturday and many of 2A's top teams were in attendance, including: Malad, Ririe, Declo, and of course, West Side.  Malad took home the gold and went undefeated on the weekend.

Melba remains at the top of the power rankings, though.  The Mustangs took on North Star Charter in a district match last week and came away with another sweep.

St. Maries is second to Melba in the power rankings, and they got the 'W' in a five-set thriller with district rival Kellogg last week.

CLASS 1AD1

Rimrock and Troy are at the top of this division.  Troy's only loss came earlier in the season against one of 1AD2's best teams (Horseshoe Bend.)  Rimrock also carries losses from non-conference foes.  Both of these teams have gone unbeaten in conference matches.  The 1AD1 division is as wide open as any classification in Idaho, though, as there are zero undefeated teams and the records amongst the top ten teams are very similar.

Looking at who is ahead in the district races, Butte County won their conference matches last week, keeping them at the top of District 5-6.

Oakley and Genesis Prep lead their districts, and like many others in 1AD1, their only losses are against non-conference matches.

Again, there are many similar records and circumstances for several 1AD1 teams, and a lot of these district leaders haven't faced each other in regular season play.  It's starting to get interesting as we head into districts and state!

CLASS 1AD2

Rockland and Horseshoe Bend continue to lead the way.  The Mustangs defeated Garden Valley, while Rockland won league matches against Clark County, Sho-Ban, Watersprings and Leadore.  Both teams still hold just one loss on the season and are heading into their district tournaments at the top of the bracket.

Things are very entertaining in this division as things aren't as clear cut, like other classifications.  Within the top five teams in the power rankings for 1AD2, four reside in the same district (District 5-6).  Many teams in this district have split matches against each other throughout the season.  With only two state tournament spots available, the 5-6 district tournament should be very competitive!

As we approach the end of the regular season, we want to wish all teams good luck at districts and beyond!
