Skyline proved it was once again the best in 4A in 2022, winning its third consecutive 4A state championship to claim its fifth state title in seven seasons and ninth title in program history.

The Grizz went 8-1 versus 4A opponents and 2-1 versus 5A opponents last fall en route to defeating Bishop Kelly 50-35 in the 4A state championship game at Holt Arena.

Receiver Kenyon Sadiq, an all purpose player who ended his senior season with 233 rushing yards and four touchdowns and 62 catches for 18 touchdowns and 1,303 yards, received Idaho's Gatorade Player of the Year award for 2022 and will continue his career at Oregon.

A wealth of other players also graduated with Sadiq, including quarterback Lachlan Haacke, running back Abrahn Silverio, defensive lineman Arik Blonquist and defensive back Ian Galbreaith.

The Grizz have been here before, though, with a target on their backs and players having to fill new roles. Head coach Scott

Berger said he is excited about the younger athletes getting their chance to take on leadership roles, and emphasis will be on buying into the team and 'playing clean football.'

"We are a spread team that has great balance of run and pass," Berger said. "We utilize speed and matchups to get our athletes the ball in space and let them do what they do best."

Berger said the Grizz are also strong defensively.

"We communicate pre-snap well, and we play hard and get eight guys to the ball every play," he said.

Skyline finished atop 4A District 6 last fall, going 4-1 during the regular season versus conference opponents. Berger said to keep an eye on Hillcrest, which went 5-5 overall and finished No. 3 in 4A District 6 last season to reach the first round of the 4A state playoffs.

"They have a lot of returners with experience and explosive playmakers," Berger said.

Skyline begins the season Aug. 25 versus Layton (Utah) at Madison High School as part of the annual Rocky Mountain Rumble.
