With a large group of weapons at his disposal, Lakeside head coach James Twoteeth has confidence in his team for the upcoming year, largely because the Knights only lost Sergio Abuan from last season and bring back two-star juniors in Kenyon SpottedHorse and Day Day Higgins, along with two other all-conference players in Talon Twoteeth and Jayson Hall.
Lakeside was the consensus pick to finish first in the North Star, and one of the big things Twoteeth points to is the depth the team will have.
“I look for the bench to be a lot stronger I think without a drop off when subbing will help us be a better team this year,” Twoteeth said. “We are very quick defensively when we get a rebound we like to score in transition and we are deeper then we were last year.”
The conference is far from a lock though for Lakeside, and Genesis Prep has the best chance to challenge the Knights atop the North Star. Genesis went 14-10 last season, but did lose three key leaders in Jonny Hillman, Jacob Schultz and Kon Ajang.
With the losses, Genesis Prep will look a lot different and a lot younger, but the youth has veteran head coach Marsell Colbert intrigued for the year.
“I am excited to see how our guys grow this season off the court and on the court. We want to play fast and attack. I am not sure of what we do well or areas needing improvement, that will come when we get started.”
