Team Preview

Following a state tournament appearance in 2014, the Pocatello Indians have endured back-to-back seasons of struggle, leaving the team looking to head back in the right direction this time around.
In his second season as Head Coach, Brock Gunter has three key seniors and a youthful group around them ready to lead the way in Pocatello.
Senior guards Alyssa Spillett, Riley Pearson and post presence Bailey Anderson are the upperclassmen to watch for.
Aside from that trio, it is an exciting core of younger talent that may take some lumps this season, but has plenty to offer moving forward on the hardwood.
One thing that should keep Pocatello competitive come conference play are the overall athletes at Gunter's disposal.
"We have a very athletic team that can get up and down the floor. Riley Pearson and Kate Jackman do a very good job of creating shots for themselves and the team. Our sophomore Destiny Harris has improved tremendously over the summer and will do well down low."
He hopes to see improvement in outside shooting, making smart decisions and rebounding.
The improvement of Harris can give the Indians a potential matchup advantage on the interior. Whether that advantage comes to full fruition this year or in future seasons is yet to be seen, but either way her time will come to make a big impact for Pocatello.
Defensively the team will provide high effort on a nightly basis.
"We have scrappy, hardnosed players who work very hard," said Gunter. "Riley Pearson, Alysa Spillett, Harlee Hales and Angel Pierce are feisty guards who do a good job putting pressure on the ball. Destiny Harris is a strong player who will be a good defensive presence underneath for us."
For success this year, Gunter knows it is all about how cohesive the team can play together as a unit on both ends of the floor.
"We have to be able to play together and execute offensively and defensively."
With a group of girls that he says are hard workers and very competitive, over time that togetherness should come to help Pocatello increase the win total from last season.
