Team Preview

It might be an uphill climb to catch Soda Springs and West Side again in conference play for Malad, however if there is a team that has the ability to play spoiler as the season goes on it may very well be the Dragons.
What it comes down to for this team is the pace of play on the floor.
First year Head Coach Jeremy Jones expects the ability to control the tempo to be a strength of his group.
Point guard Sadi Simpson is at the patrols on both ends of the floor. She will be asked to help find easy baskets for Malad against plenty of stingy defenses on a nightly basis.
It's a challenge that will be made easier with Hanah Peterson and Sami Williams surrounding her.
Sophomore forward Shawnee Simpson was listed by Jones as an expected impact newcomer.
For success to come the Dragons will need to outwork the opponent and rely on what is a tight team bond to help push them over the top.
With this being the first year for Jones on the sideline there may very well be a transition period in the early stages of the season. How quickly Malad adapts to the new philosophy and voice will be crucial against a gauntlet of a schedule in the early going.
That schedule includes two games against 2A power Ririe, two with West Jefferson and a matchup at 2016 3A runner-up Marsh Valley.
Jones says he is most excited about the unity of the team for this upcoming season. Tight-knit teams like the Dragons are tend to have many traits that simply can't be coached, which could help propel Malad to some close wins in the new campaign under its first year head coach.
