Team Preview

Having a player like Maryssa Hogamier (All-North Star League) makes Coach Chris Lund (4th year) glad that Hogamier is a Miner. The senior brings greatly needed scoring and leadership to the roster. The guard will be seeing a lot more attention this year from the opposition. With this attention, Coach Lund is hoping that will open opportunities for the rest of his squad.
Being the only 1A D1 North Star team means that the Miners have the entire season to work on and develop the understanding of what the team will need to be ready for come the post-season. The Miners will be awaiting the third seed Whitepine team come mid-February. Step one of two in order to crack the State tournament. Coach Lund wants his entire roster to develop grit, the type that toughens them up and gets them focused to do whatever it takes. This process began back during summer.
“I am ready to see the time and commitment put in over the summer pay off for this team,” says Coach Lund.
Hogamier won’t be the only form of leadership the Miners will have. Hogamier will be joined with fellow seniors Sierra Brantz, Hannah Sheppard, and Tristin Krous. This group is loaded with speed up and down. To go along with the speed, they have the ability to shoot the ball, led by Hogamier, and to pressure opposing players. Individually, it looks promising for the Miners. Collectively is where Coach Lund says if they solve, the Miners will be strong. Collectively like improving the man-to-man defense and being better in the open court on fast breaks making better team decisions.
All this needs to be put together by mid-February, but during the regular season, fans should take note when Kellogg and Wallace get together and battle it out for a cross town rivalry game against Kellogg-cross town rival.
