Being the sole team in the 1A D1 North Star League means every year Wallace wins the league and moves directly into the first of two State play-in games and face the third-place team out of the Whitepine League. Last season, Wallace and Coach Corey Miller (3rd year), came up short in that play-in game falling to Genesee, who went on to play in the fourth-place game at State.
The benefit for Coach Miller and his squad is that they can compete against various teams from various classifications and can work on what the team needs to perfect. This season, with no seniors returning on the current roster, Wallace will need to do just that. Fans and opponents will find them working to mesh the current roster.
A major benefit for Coach Miller will be returning three players-Matt Farkas, Hunter Gust, Zach Welch-all received North Star League honors. They will be welcoming in newcomer Erick Brackebusch, who Coach Miller believes will be contributing to the team this year.
With a solid group of student-athletes, Coach Miller will be focusing on effort and becoming more efficient. Effort in everything they do from everyone in practice and on each play, especially on the defensive end applying pressure to capitalize on opponent’s mistakes and becoming a better rebounding team to finish each possession. Consistency, for this club, is very important. Coach Miller wants each player to consistently play hard, handle pressure, and stay focused.
With no seniors, but returning three players with honors, Coach Miller is excited to hit the hardwood and wants to remind fans to come out in swarms, especially for when Wallace takes on Genesis Prep (second year in existence). Wallace plans to work to get better throughout the season and will be ready for the first of two State play-in games.
