The record wasn't all that accurate of a portrayal of the talent level on the floor in Arimo last season, as the 9-11 mark included multiple close losses that showed the potential of what could be moving forward.
After taking some lumps in a one year hiatus from the state tournament, 11th year Head Coach Jason Brower might have enough at his disposal to challenge Snake River for conference supremacy this season.
Leading the way for the Eagles will be athletic specimen Jeff Wilding, a junior who can jump out of the gym, and Cody Goodworth, the point guard who has handled the offense and will inherit an even larger role this year.
When this group gets out in the open floor they are hard to slow down, but too often last season there was not enough consistency from start to finish, with great spurts but also lapses from time to time.
Brower hopes to see a reduction in turnovers and an uptick in rebounding.
He is excited about the scoring options that he has this year, following a campaign in which Austin Wilding was the go-to guy.
The Eagles will look to use an outwork the opponent mentality to battle with teams on a nightly basis.
There is one major x-factor to the success of the team this season.
"Defending the paint," said Brower. "We are not a big team."
As a result of not having the big men that other coaches may have at their disposal, he'll hope to keep the players who do get matched up with opponents interior players out of foul trouble, as there is not a ton of depth in Arimo.
Guard Tanner Whitworth is also back and is another player who will see heavy playing time this season for Marsh Valley.
It appears to be a two horse race between the Eagles and Snake River in the 3A Southeast Idaho Conference this year.
