Team Preview:

Everybody knew it would be difficult to replace Malek Harwell's production for the Century Diamondbacks last season, but it was not expected by many to see the team struggle to what would become a 3-19 mark on the year.

Improvement from Pocatello, Blackfoot and eventual state-champion Preston made things in conference play more competitive than in recent years, something which will continue with the additions of Skyline and Idaho Falls this season.

After a freshman year of becoming acclimated to the varsity level, it is time for Deshun Harwell to take the leadership reigns of the Diamondbacks, something he can do by example, with a strong knack for filling up the stat sheet.

Honorable Mention All-Conference guard Tucker Hough is back beside him to create a backcourt which should match up well with just about anybody.

Zach Hearn from the forward position provides the length, along with Tyler Moore.

For third year Head Coach Lester Stewart there are multiple reasons for excitement.

"Having so many returners from last year’s team who are a year older and more mature than the previous year, they are motivated to improve upon and exceed the results from last season," said Stewart.

Offensively there are three key strengths for Century including having players who can all play multiple positions and playmakers who are able to make their own shot. The other key comes right from perhaps the most important position on the floor.

"We have a senior point guard in Tucker Hough who is a natural leader who will facilitate and score," said Stewart. "We are looking to get more movement without the ball and scoring in transition."

After taking lumps last season it will still be a challenge to get back towards the top of the conference this time around, however it can be expected that the Diamondbacks will compete on a nightly basis.

"We are a passionate team that will focus on executing and playing together no matter the score of the game," said Stewart.

Century gets the new season started on November 30 at Twin Falls.
